Making a polished menu for your game often isn't the most glamorous aspect of gamedev, but for serious projects it's often crucial. The purpose of this jam is to be a short, low-stakes opportunity to learn or flex your muscles when it comes to making an impressive menu to be proud of!
This game jam is unranked, so while you're free to make a new project, feel free to use this as an opportunity to tackle that menu you've been putting off making! Similarly, you may start working before the jam officially starts- there will not be any specific theme for this jam after all.
The main purpose of this jam is simply for participants to gain experience, and maybe even share some helpful advice with one another! Because of this, we hope to see you join the discord server where you can team up with others, exchange tips and tricks, or ask for help from those who can offer aid! Whether it's aesthetic sensibilities, UI / UX design, or coding architecture, we hope that this game jam will help you level up your skills!
There are no requirements as to what your menu should have or what it should look like, but if you're looking for some inspiration or ideas, here are a handful to consider trying to implement!
- Usability with both mouse and controller
- Reactive / juicy UI elements
- Functioning settings menu
- Button remapping
- Saving and Loading (or Save slots)
- Transitions between menus
- Level selection
- Sound effects
- Skill tree
- Credits
