It's about making a good and original game mechanic! There will be a provided genre and some bonus focuses a week before the jam for you to design the mechanic around and you will have a month to code a game with the main mechanic. The criteria is:
After the allotted time period, submissions are then voted using the criteria above. The voting will be up to the public and there is no prize, the true price will be the connections you made along the way.

The bonus focuses are:
Mechanic design is how well thought out and interesting the main mechanic is to tinker and play with, like let's looks at Baba Is You's main mechanic. Baba Is You has this main mechanic where you can control the rules of the level, sometimes the world, by moving on a grid using this fluffy rabbit(I think it is) named Baba. That is a good mechanic design that led to an indie success. Who knows you might create a main mechanic that could lead to your success (or your failure).
Application is how the small demo/game shows how well the mechanic is applied to the genre and how it is used to interact with the demo/game's world. Like how Mario can use Cappy to capture not only enemies but some other objects and NPCs in Super Mario Odyssey!
Enjoyment is how fun the mechanic is to use. Like on how some people enjoy playing with Madeline's dash move in Celeste or the combat in Hyper Light Drifter or the building in Minecraft.
