Join in on the Lux community game jam! It's a 48-hour jam anyone can participate in!

Our honorable panel of judges will help pick the theme and the winners.

The theme is Light and Shadow.
The theme ideas were submitted by the judges and voted on in our  Discord channel. We picked randomly from the 3 top voted themes.

Timeline:

March 6th, 6pm EST: Lux Jam Opening Ceremony and Theme Selection

March 8th, 6pm EST: Lux Jam ends. Games must be submitted. You have one hour grace period to submit your game after this time. 

March 8th, 7pm EST: Submission cut off. No exceptions.

March 8th, 7pm EST: Voting begins. 

March 15th, 6pm EST: Voting ends, finalists are chosen. 

March 29th, 6pm EST: Judges have played the finalist games and submitted the ratings.

March 31st, 6pm EST: The winner is announced.

Lana streams game development daily on Twitch. She released Don't Notice Me on steam in 2018 and is currently working on Call of the Void and Birth to Death. She will be streaming the game jam including opening announcements, closing remarks and answering questions.



The Judges: 

Eric Martel

Eric is our resident AI expert. Having worked on FarCry: Instincts, Thief 4 and various Assassin’s Creed titles, he is now The Director of AI and Machine Learning at Eidos-Montreal, creating smart experiences for various elements in AAA games. Eric has given talks, been on panels and taught master classes on topics such as “Pushing the limits of creative experiences with AI”.

What Eric is looking at when rating the games: After having worked on gameplay systems for many years, he will likely be looking at the depth of the systems and how they interact with one another (while keeping the time limit in mind)


Robert French

With experience in many facets of game development, Robert is our game dev all-rounder. He’s the CEO and Founder of LiftLock Studios (creating original games), the Faculty Head for the Video Game Programs at TriOS college and community supporter and educational adviser of the PTBO Game Jam (happening in-person in Peterborough, Ontario, March 14th-15th). Fun fact: Robert created a game that was featured in the DC Universe series Titans. 

What Robert will be looking for when rating the games: Robert will be looking at how well they integrate the theme, inventiveness, uniqueness and how good and fun they "feel" to play.


Michael Aranda

Michael Aranda Michael wears many hats: game developer, Youtuber (at the YouTube channels WhatImDoingRightNow and SciShow), musician, sound designer, streamer, and burger aficionado. (Seriously, this guy knows his burgers!)

What Michael will be looking at when rating the games: Overall user experience, with a keen eye for great audio production and effective use of music.


Mah-Dry-Bread

Mah-Dry-Bread is a full-time gameplay YouTuber who has been creating daily videos for 9 years. These include Let's Plays, Reviews, Streams, guides, tutorials, and more on a wide variety of games. His current most popular series are the Pokemon Challenge videos where he beats a Pokemon game under a challenging set of rules each week.

What Mah-Dry-Bread will be looking at when rating the games:
How enjoyable is the game to play? How much personality does it have? Games that are unique and made with love will do well here!



FAQs:

How is the theme decided?

  • Judges will submit themes. We will vote on the themes in Discord before the event! During the opening ceremonies at the start of the jam (twitch.tv/lana_lux), we will randomly generate a theme from the top choices.


How are finalists decided?

  • Top voted games on the Itch page and the discord will be submitted as finalists to the judges. Each judge will give each game a score out of 10. The top rated game wins! Results will be in 2 weeks after the final submission day.


How long is the jam?

  •  48 hours: 6pm EST on a Friday until 6pm EST on Sunday


How many people can be on a team? Can soloists participate?

  • You may participate as an individual or a group of up to 3 members. However, prizes must be split between the team (and shipped to one address).


Can we use an engine?

  • Yes, any publicly available engine is allowed


Can we use pre-made assets?

  • You can only use assets that are free and publicly available or you must make your own during the jam. Assets personally pre-made for the jam are not allowed. This keeps it fair. You must also reference the original material.


Does it need to be open source? 

  • No, but you need to show your progress online (i.e. on a blog, social media posts of progress shots, a Youtube video, streamed on Twitch with a VOD available, etc.) 


Where do we upload the games we make?

  • Upload your game to Itch and selected Lux Jam on the info page. The game must be free to play.


Where will the games be available?

  • On the itch game jam event page


What is the maturity rating for the games?

  • Please keep the games within TOS of Twitch and Youtube.


What platforms should the game be available on? 

  • Please make the game available either on Windows or in browser so the judges can play it. You're welcome to make it available for additional platforms. No installers.


How do I submit a game?
Upload your game to Itch.io. On the jam page click Submit Your Project and add the game you uploaded.


By entering a game in this jam you confirm that you consent to this game to be included on plays on YouTube and Twitch.

You must be 18 or older to participate. 

The winner will need to submit an address, email and Paypal to accept prizes (the Paypal can be sent as a Steam gift card if you don't have Paypal).
