Overview

The London Student Game Jam is a small inter-school game development competition where students create a game based around a surprise theme within a limited time period.

The event is designed to encourage:

  • creativity
  • programming and technical skills
  • teamwork
  • problem solving
  • digital art and music production

Students may work individually or in small teams.

Event Format

Theme Reveal

The theme will be announced at the official start time.

Development Period

Participants will have: 7 days
to design and create their game.

Submission

Games must be submitted before the deadline using the itch.io page.

Eligibility

Participants must:

  • be currently enrolled in a secondary school or sixth form college
  • be aged 13–19
  • follow their school’s behaviour and online safety policies

Students from all experience levels are welcome.


Allowed Tools

Any game engine, framework, or programming language may be used, including:

  • Unity
  • Godot
  • Unreal Engine
  • GameMaker
  • Python/Pygame
  • Web technologies

Participants may use:

  • free/public assets
  • self-made assets
  • AI-assisted tools

However, all external assets or tools used should be credited.

Restrictions

Games must:

  • be appropriate for a school environment
  • avoid offensive or discriminatory content
  • avoid excessive graphic violence or sexual content
  • not include malware, harmful software, or unsafe downloads

Organisers reserve the right to remove inappropriate submissions.

Judging Criteria

Games may be judged on:

  • creativity and interpretation of theme
  • gameplay and design
  • visual/audio presentation

Polish is encouraged, but incomplete or experimental projects are still welcome.
