This jam is now over. It ran from 2024-09-25 17:00:00 to 2024-11-04 18:00:00. View 24 entries
SUMMARY:
- Starts on Tuesday 25th September, 2024
- about 5 weeks long (ends on 29th October)
- Submission must be a playable level (ideally with a gameplay video)
- Any engine / game / tools allowed (Source and Unreal recommended, as they're popular with people in our Discord)
- You can watch videos about our previous jams here: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLbBhMQ8qnVWO8CJ4VSXinTl9WPgE5SUXF
THE THEMES:
- Blocktober! I'm very keen for our community to show that blockouts are meant to be playable things made to test and iterate on quickly, to prove out gameplay ideas and designs. No empty, unplayable environments allowed!
- In addition to the Blocktober thing, our 2 themes:
- Theme 1 is "Four Minutes and Thirty-three Seconds"
- Theme 2 is "Extreme"
- Feel free to interpret the themes as simply or creatively as you like! For example, the 4"33' theme can obviously refer to an amount of time that could be significant in your level - but it's also classic piece of avant garde "music" by John Cage, that you can google for inspiration
- Both themes are recommended but genuinely optional - you can choose to work with one or both, it's up to you. I recommend you approach them in whatever way helps you make something cool, instead of making things hard for yourself
- (And If the themes really don't suit you, then don't worry about it too much and make whatever you like. Also, feel free to return to an old project, and spend the jam making it better!)
HOW TO JOIN IN:
- This jam is open to anyone and is all hosted here on Itch, but our community will be talking and sharing progress / tips etc on on our level design discord here: https://discord.gg/geFkdZW5vp
- The discord is a private server that you can access by supporting the Patreon (supporting at any tier will instantly grant you lifetime access): https://www.patreon.com/stevelee_gamedev
OTHER STUFF:
- Any submissions that don't look like they were made for this jam will be removed
- As always I recommend leaning towards making a smaller level that you have time to really iterate on and finish (e.g. 3-6 minutes long - this was part of the inspiration behind the 4'33" theme), instead of making a larger one (10+ minutes) and inevitably not being able to finish it to a good quality
- As always, try and get it to a rough, playtestable state as early as you can in the jam (ideally halfway), get feedback on it, and spend the rest of your time making it better before you submit!
