1. Our Goal & Theme

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our aim here is to MAKE VIDEO GAMES!! Of almost any size, shape, texture and colour.
This Jam even has a theme~
It's "ADAPTATION"
Which can mean a few different things!
1
: something that is adapted
specifically : a composition rewritten into a new form
2
: the act or process of adapting
: the state of being adapted
3
: adjustment to environmental conditions: such as
a
: adjustment of a sense organ to the intensity or quality of stimulation
b
: modification of an organism or its parts that makes it more fit for existence under the conditions of its environment : a heritable physical or behavioral trait that serves a specific function and improves an organism's fitness or survival
WOW!! That sure is a BIG HEFTY word that can be interpreted in a number of different ways - it's perfect for a game jam...
2. Rules & Guidelines
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rules:

Deadline is Monday 11th Dec at 23:59:59.

Please refrain from explicit content (let's keep it PEGI 12 - unironically; familiarise yourself with these criteria).

Please include content warnings where appropriate.

Must be a videogame (Bo Ruberg definition).

All materials must be your own or otherwise properly credited. This includes AI produced works.

---

Guidelines:

If you are planning to adapt an existing piece of work then I'd recommend that you try not to infringe on copyright; satire/parody is a way to sidestep this, but also consider works that are in the public domain.

---

Any engine is allowed! I would recommend the following (they're all free!):

2D: Bitsy (small 2D adventure games), Renpy (visual novels), Twine (hypertext interactive writing), Construct 2 (basically anything!)

3D: Unity (licensing drama aside, this thing is pretty good), Godot (meme engine), Unreal Engine 5 (rebuild lighting)

---

Go it alone OR as part of a team!! Please no teams bigger than 3 people tho <3

Don't have it in you to make a whole video game?? Offer your talents to others taking part! Produce art, music, writing etc. for others to use in their games!!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Q: I MADE MY GAME BUT HOW DO I SUBMIT IT????
A: Depending on your engine of choice your build/export process will look a little different, BUT you should hopefully be able to figure this out with some googling (or even ask for help on the discord!). Once you've built it you should be able to submit your entry right here!!
Q: I'VE NEVER MADE A VIDEO GAME BEFORE AND I DON'T KNOW WHERE TO START????
A: You gotta start somewhere! I really do find bitsy (https://ledoux.itch.io/bitsy) to be a very accessible and easy-going engine for first timers. Just remember to start small - aim to make your game enjoyable (other emotional experiences are available too) for 1 minute, and go from there.
Q: I DON'T LIKE THE THEME!! CAN I SUBMIT SOMETHING THAT DOESN'T INCLUDE THE THEME????
A: I mean, like, technically?? I can't stop you. But working to a brief is good practice - and I've deliberately chosen a theme that can be interpreted in a number of ways to give you some wiggle room.
Q: ARE THERE PRIZES?? IS THERE A WINNER???? WHY SHOULD I EVEN TAKE PART IF I CAN'T WINNNN???? >:CCC
A: No prizes - no winner. We're all just out here making videogames because it's fun, and it's so cool seeing what sort of stuff everyone else is making! Being a cog in the machine of the industry is neat and all, but you can actually just make your own videogames right now. So sign up, get some practice in, and make some bad art!
Q: I HAVE A FRIEND THAT DOESN'T STUDY AT LMA BUT CAN THEY TAKE PART TOO???
A: Nope! By all means, if you have a buddy/family member/partner/pet that you want to involve in your production that's fine - get your cat to draw your character sprites. However, I'd request that they don't get invited to this jam page or get involved in discussions etc. Oh! And make sure you credit them!
