Reading Week  - BA Games Zine

After a slight delay we are on for putting this thing together.

Please use this page for discussions, resource sharing, information about the project etc.

This is a bit long. Have a contents page:

1. Our goal & theme

2. Rules & Page specs

3. "how do I actually submit lol?" and other misc. questions

4. Links & Info

1. Our goal & theme

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Our aim here is to work together as a group to produce a zine - with both a digital and physical release/print.
To achieve this we (I) will be working with Electric Zine Maker and EZMreader to produce the final product.
Now, you don't have to worry about that part (but for those more curious I've included links to EZM and EZMreader below) - but you can still be involved by producing content for the publication.
Our first issue will explore the theme of "Video Games" - sorry sports fans, D&D nerds and traditional game lovers - this one is for the gamers. Any and all content related to "video games" (which for the purposes of this zine will be defined as: "any designed, interactive experience that operates primarily through a digital interface and understands itself as a video game.") is good for the zine, which includes (but is not limited to) the following:
-Fan Art
-Comics
-Written reviews
-Poetry
-Written guides for video games that exist
-Written guides for video games that don't exist
-IDK a video game themed crossword?
Ideally we want a good range of content, so don't everybody be submitting crosswords and/or your Sonic the Hedgehog fansona, senf me quality stuff - and I withhold the right as editor to refuse or cut any content that I think is pee-pee poo-poo bad >:[
You have been warned
2. Rules & Page specs
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Rules:

Deadline is Monday 28th Feb at 13:00.

One page per person, one submission per person.  If you want to collaborate with a friend and effectively put your pages together for a comic or something then that's g, but y'all gotta let me know beforehand - don't just submit things and expect me to figure it out. I'm dumb, I ain't figuring nothin out.

Until I have all of the submissions and start putting it together I won't know the specifics of the zines specs, and ideally we'll be producing a number of different styles of zine to find one that works best. But for now I ask that you submit your works as two single image .PNG  files (unless you are just producing written/text stuff in which case just submit a .txt file or anything else). The specs of these images should be as follows:

High-res image: A5 (148 x 210 mm, 1748x2480 px, 300 ppi, CMYK colour)

Low-res image: A7 (74 x 105 mm, 874 x 1240 px, 240 ppi, CMYK colour)

This way should we have to print exceptionally small then I can make use of the smaller scale image that _you_ have produced, rather than me resizing it to a point which you are unhappy with. This should also give you a good idea of how legible text etc. will be at the smallest scale. I am confident that you guys can produce great works within these restrictions - I am trusting in your resourcefulness and keen talents!

The zine will be presented in portrait, but that's not to say you can't have your page using a landscape orientated layout. You can have your page printed upside-down if you want.

The final digital zine can be up to 31 pages long (wow!) so everyone can be featured there without much issue.

The physical printing will depend on how many submissions we finally end up with and probably other stuff too, but I will endeavour to ensure that everyone who submits will have their work printed and represented in some way. The most likely end goal is a 26-page accordion zine (which, printed for A3 results in A7 sized pages) but if we have significantly fewer submissions we'll do something else.

**PLEASE NOTE**

That as this is work for PRINT you should consider this during your page design process.

DO NOT expect your page to fill out to each edge, that's not how printers work. I would recommend giving yourself a 6mm boarder around your page - or a full 1cm if your particularly worried.

3. :V

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just email it to me. You can try and submit on itch.io, I guess? But really I just need you to email it to me. I just wanted to use itch as a means to broadcast the brief and give us a community page etc.
Images submissions should be png files as laid out above. Text work can be sent as an attachment in an email, or just in the email itself. Comics would be best submitted as exported images. Any questions about what you're submitting just field it in the community page.
If you're unsure about what to produce, or you don't know if your idea is suitable etc. then make a post on the community page here and see what everyone else thinks. I'm happy to lend my advice too, but ultimately I want you guys to inform the direction that this project takes.
If you have any other questions then please leave them in the community page on here. I'll do my best to help out any way I can.
