Welcome!

Knitweave Jam is a monthly game jam where you take a "base" theme and weave it with a randomly chosen "embroidery" theme!

Three embroideries are chosen from a roulette wheel spin! Weave one embroidery with the highest-rated base theme into your game!
(Hardmode: Weave all of them!)

Base

The base theme consists of core genres, such as: platformer, shooter, puzzle, etc.

Well before the jam starts, the base theme is voted upon by the community on our Discord and on the "Vote Here" Discussion thread.

Embroidery

The embroidery theme(s) are the twist(s) that spice up the design of the game, such as: rhythm, metroidvania, and politics. You only have to weave one, but you are welcome to add two or all three.

Spun right before the jam starts on YouTube, the three additional "embroidery" themes will be posted below, and on our Discord and Twitter.

Tips & FAQ

  • Having trouble weaving the themes together?
    • Start with the base theme, and build a game that revolves around that. When your core game is built, then sprinkle in one of the embroidery themes. It is perfectly okay if a game is 99% base and 1% embroidery!
  • How literal should I take these categories/words/genres?
    • Not literal at all; redefine a genre or interpret a word as loosely as you want! The idea is to create something unique and original, and your own!
