For this Halloween Kirbois Gamer Cup, you have the entire month to create the absolute best, short form horror game.

The theme is... RPG Maker Horror

Now what the hell does RPG Maker mean? In 1992, a game-making tool called [RPGmaker] released in Japan that allowed users to create their own role-playing games with simple point 'n click controls and turned-based combat. The horror subgenre emerged, became incredibly popular, and now we're making our own.

For the purpose of this jam, THESE ARE THE REQUIREMENTS

1. You are strongly, strongly encouraged to use RPG Maker 2003 to create your game. 

It is relatively straightforward, requires no coding, and is [currently on sale for $1.99] on Steam. In fact, if you use RPG Maker 2003, you will automatically receive a coveted 0.5 ★.

However, if you absolutely must custom code your own RPG Maker bullshit engine or use Unreal Engine 5... I'll allow it. However, you must include the basics elements:

• top down or two-dimensional perspective 
• story-driven narrative 
• horror (whatever you think that means) 
• must run on Windows

2. It must be SHORT. 

Under 30 minutes of gameplay.  Design your story, gameplay, puzzles, or whatever to fit within a single play session amount of time.

Scoring Criteria?

Yep. We're ranking these bad boys according to the KGC star system. 

• Submitting a playable game: ★

1. Creativity

• original, new idea or a fresh take on an ol' classic 
• uses self-created custom assets, music, sounds, and other elements that are not included in RPG Maker

2. Artistry

• quality of writing and story 
• quality of music and sound effects 
• quality of the graphics and visual art

3. Completion

• does it feel like a cohesive or complete experience? 
• missing or lacking assets?

Yes, technically we are competing but I highly encourage collaboration. Games are really hard. Creating and contributing to each other's game is allowed. Follow the [KGC channels] in the Kirbois discord for updates, resources, and complaints. Will probably edit this a bunch of times to include rules that I forgot. Good luck!
