Our Adventure Starts Here

Heroes of Cerulea is an adventure tabletop role-playing game where you explore dungeons, fight monsters, solve puzzles, gather keys, find new items, and defeat bosses. Lo-fi art and rules; high playability. It’s heavily inspired by the classic Legend of Zelda games and by old-school role-playing.

To celebrate its release, we’re hosting an official jam for community content!

The Jam

Whatever. Create something playable specifically designed for Heroes of Cerulea—a monster, a boss, a special item, a hero kin, a random table, a minigame, an Overworld area, a dungeon, or something we haven’t even considered yet.

However. No lower or upper limit for length.  Whichever format you prefer. Adhere to the Graphic Charter and its templates, or do your own thing. Multiple entries are allowed.

Free. The Heroes of Cerulea rulebook is “Pay What You Want” and you don’t have to pay anything to join the jam. However, you are still allowed to charge people for your submission.

No AI. Submissions generated by an LLM or using AI art are not allowed and will be disqualified.

3PL Compliance. Submissions must comply with all conditions of the Heroes of Cerulea Third Party License

The Loot

The idea behind this jam is to just create a bunch of fun stuff together and share it with each other. If we make stuff for each other, everyone wins. But…

Three random submissions will be awarded one small prize of their choosing:

Game Temple. A physical copy of a limited dungeon booklet. In the heart of ancient ruins stands the revered Game Temple. Once a haven for disciples of tabletop delights, whispers now speak of dark forces stirring within its labyrinthine corridors. Will the heroes dare to brave whatever trials await them and purge the darkness from these hallowed halls?

Custom Dice. Four limited dice from the Kickstarter campaign. Eight-sided dice with two sets of 1–4.

Temple of Legends. A physical copy of a limited dungeon booklet from the Kickstarter campaign, written by Lucas Falk. Tales speak of an ancient ziggurat deep in the desert, hidden within a raging sandstorm. Can the heroes brave the sands, the winds, and the puzzles to uncover the temple’s treasures?

Halls of Smoke and Ash. A physical copy of a limited dungeon booklet from the Kickstarter campaign, written by Christian Sahlén. A large, cubic rock spreads dark smoke, veiling the area in sunless half-light. The rock is said to be the cursed chapel of a long forgotten god. Do the heroes dare to venture into the mysterious monolith?

Master Screen. A physical copy of a limited screen from the Kickstarter campaign. Four-paneled double gate screen with a rules summary and random tables for quick reference; also functions as a grid map of the Overworld.

Shipping will be covered by Bläckfisk Publishing, but winners are responsible for any customs fees, local taxes, or other such additional costs.

Tips

Keep It Simple. Heroes of Cerulea is “lo-fi art and rules; high playability”. It doesn’t have to be perfect, proficient, or pretty—make something and it will be better than nothing.

Be Careful. While Heroes of Cerulea is an unabashed love letter to The Legend of Zelda, the latter also has copyrights that you need to respect. Make sure to appropriately file off any serial numbers to protect yourself against legal consequences.

Use the Templates (If You Want To). The Heroes of Cerulea Community Content package contains a Graphic Charter with guidelines for fonts and colors, layout templates for Adobe InDesign and Affinity Publisher, as well as graphic elements that can be used to create maps. You decide whether you stick to those things, use parts, or take your design in an entirely different direction.
