What Is UFO Silly Jam?

Hello... <:3c Join the Discord if you want. https://discord.gg/JjCW24y6XW

In addition to the Theme and Limitation common to many GameJams (which you can read about down below)... you can, if you desire, follow some of the self-imposed Constraints the UFO 50 πŸ›ΈπŸ‘Ύ developers did:

  1. The color palette. https://lospec.com/palette-list/ufo-50
  2. A game window resolution of 384 x 216.
  3. 3 buttons, aside from movement inputs.

NOTE -- If you impose your own creative Constraints on yourself (instead of the UFO 50 Constraints), or you alter said UFO 50 Constraints (encouraged!), you should still be scored positively in the respective voting category! Examples include:

  • Your own limited color palette.
  • Your own low resolution or uncommon aspect ratios (1:1 ?)
  • Your own constrained or esoteric control scheme, such as mouse only or number keys only.

What kind of game and assets are allowed?

You may use any language or game engine. That said, it's ideal if your game can be played in the browser, in the Itch.io submissions page (HTML5 exports). Even better, try to ensure it can be played with just mouse and keyboard (M+KB), or just mouse, or just keyboard!

(If your game isn't playable in the browser, you'll ideally want to export for both Windows AND Linux... Make sure to test an early build of your jam game as needed!)

You may use pre-made assets and game engine plugins! It is generally in good taste to use only FREE assets and plugins, but use your best judgment.

Please be mindful of how LOUD your audio is by default (turn down your audio assets and the default volume for the game if needed) and present a flashing light warning, or other trigger warnings if somehow needed.

What do I get if I win?

Nothing, possibly! Numbers?!

A sense of pride and accomplishment!!!!!!!!!! :D πŸŽ‰

I might draw you a silly little Ixzine doodle. Fanart of your game perhaps...

Perhaps the winner(s) is not even determined by voting criteria. Be scared, jammers... >:3

Theme and Limitation:

A Jam's Theme is an aesthetical consideration... the vibes of the presentation, influencing the setting, art, writing, etc.

This Jam's Theme is "Vermin and Sermon" !!! πŸ€πŸ“–

How literally or figuratively, how blatantly or how subtly you interpret either or both elements of this Theme is up to you.

πŸ€πŸ“–πŸ€πŸ“–πŸ€πŸ“–πŸ€πŸ“–πŸ€πŸ“–

A Jam's Limitation is a mechanical consideration... guiding your game design.

This Jam's Limitation is "Battery. Drain. Charge." !!! πŸͺ«πŸ”‹

Remember that the Limitation does NOT have to influence your game aesthetically in any way. What's important is interpreting "Battery. Drain. Charge." into your submission's core gameplay.

If you need ideas, discuss with other Jammers~

Who Can Vote? And Voting Criteria:

If you have an Itch.io account then you, personally, may vote once on every project. This GameJam is unlisted so this should be fine, but please don't hand out the link willy nilly :3c

Voting on Itch.io GameJams is done after the submission period ends, during the voting period. Voting is done out of 5 Stars.

Voting Criteria are as follows:

  • Toughness: How well did this submission follow the UFO 50 Constraints OR otherwise restrict themselves creatively? πŸ›ΈπŸ‘Ύ
  • Beauty: How well did this submission interpret the Theme into its aesthetic / vibes? πŸ€πŸ“–
  • Cleverness: How well did this submission interpret the Limitation into its game design / mechanics? πŸͺ«πŸ”‹
  • Cuteness: How Charming was this submission? (Amusing/Funny/Cute/Sweet) 🀣🐈
  • Coolness: How Swag was this submission? (Inspirational/Awesome/Radical/Scary) πŸ™€πŸ˜Ž
  • Ixzine's Trick...: I'm the GameJam Host and I can award bonus stars like in the Mario. Beware... ;) ⚠️🌟
