Welcome

To the first-ever International Educations Game Jam!

We're so glad to have you here. In the time leading up to the Jam, there are going to be a lot of questions about how, when, and how. To help address these we've created a FAQ (below)

Remember that even though the Jam ends in voting and a prize ceremony the core of the Jam should be discovery, collaboration, and experimentation.

FAQ

  1. What is a Game Jam?
"Jam" is a reference to musical jam sessions. Similarly, the goal with a "game jam" is to come together and make a videogame with a focus on creativity and collaboration.  A Game jam has a common theme that all games are made using. These can be as vague as "Strength" or as specific as "Run from Scary Monsters" (Though even that theme would see a lot of diversity) . A Game Jam is generally a shorter event lasting between 48 and 72 hours.
  2. When is the Theme of the International Educations Game Jam announced?
Directly after the keynote speaker (yet to be revealed) on the first day of the jam.
  1. How long is the jam?
The Jam starts on the 2'nd of February at 10:00 CET (Central European Time) and ends two days later on the 5'th after the award ceremony at 14:00 CET.

Our Keynote speaker will begin presenting at 10:15, before that we will issue some basic information to every participant.

Any questions about your specific time zone can be calculated here: https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/converter.html

  1. How are teams created?
A focus for this event is international communication and collaboration. As such the groups will be randomly created with at least two participants from each country present - whenever possible
  2. How large is each team?
no fewer than 5, no larger than 7.
  3. Where is the Jam located?
A Discord server will be made available to all participants a couple of days before the Jam starts. The link to this Discord server will be given from the organizers to each school who will then distribute the link to their students.
  4. How are games submitted?
All details on submitting your game are found in the "Submission details" section.  It will be available after the Jam starts on this page.
  5. How are games judged?
Each submitted game will be played by a randomly selected group of their international peers along with a group of judges. Those playing the game will then score it on a multitude of criteria (fun-factor, creativity, sound & music to name a few). The three games with the highest average score will be the winners of the jam and presented with an award at the end of the event along with the ability to present their game to the judges and their peers.
