THEME GOES LIVE AT 12PM NOON CST (US).

Insert Game [Here] has been Omaha's freshest summer game creation experience since 2017. We're back and ready to keep everyone out of the sun and basking in the glow of glorious game design. 8 days of at home, online, and (for some) distanced but in-person game jammin.

We've been all about staying inside and out of that hot summer sun, but for the second year in a row you can do so FROM THE COMFORT OF YOUR OWN HOME. We're marching forward on every front to keep the game dev community going strong and safe. Make cool stuff in quarantine. Keep that social distance....with friends at your side.

Join the discord! https://discord.gg/B2ttZ7N

We welcome first time game developers. Designers, artists, musicians, programmers, voice actors, hobbyists, educators, anyone and everyone is welcome to try their hand at making a game. Participants should have anything needed to make your own video or physical game, but submitted games must be digitally accessible, playable, and potentially printable. If video games aren't your thing or access to hardware is an issue, you're encouraged to test the waters by making a board game! To help everyone have remote access to creative software, CPL staff have compiled a list of open-source options HERE.

NEW FOR 2021

Every board game that completes a print-and-play version will have their creation printed in the UNO Creative Production Lab and added to the Criss Library Board Game Collection for patron checkout. Any video game made to the specifications of our arcade machine will get added to public play rotation.

2021 MUTATORS

"Share-n-Share-Alike" - Your entire game can be printed and played from a shared digital document.

"Flynn’s Arcade" - Your game is created for and playable on the UNO CPL arcade cabinet.

Meta-mutator: "Symbiotic Partnership" -  Let another team select a mutator for you.

"Mirror Match" - The player competes against their previous play-through.

This Day In History - Use "This day in history" website to help highlight interesting elements from this day in history. July 10 - 18th.

“I’m the ideas guy” - Trade game outline with another team and BOTH teams must make the other’s game concept.

“God’s Hands” - Make a fun game that is completely luck based, no skill involved.

“r/aww” - Every asset in your game is a picture of a pet of a game jam participant.

“Gaia’s Revenge” - You are nature. Humans are the virus.

“Achievement Unlocked” - Your game gives the player a false sense of accomplishment.

“Smooth brain” - Your game is phenomenally dumb. I mean like reeeeaaaaal dumb...

“What a TWIST!… or was it?” - At the end of a play-through, the player realizes THEY are the baddie.

“Gimme that one pager” - Your entire game fits on a single sheet of paper, front and back.

"Dollar Menu” - Your board game can be built and played entirely from $10 spent at Dollar Tree.

Awards of Questionable Value 2021 - The Returnening

“Return of the Glitch King” Most enjoyable glitch

“Most Likely to Save the Planet. Maybe.” Everything about this game screams bare minimum eco-positivity

“The Legend of Monkey Ball Golf III” Perfectly frustrating in all the right/wrong ways

“Absolutely Lovely” Kindest experience, beginning to end

“Even More Cowbell” Super solid sounds or music

“Polishing With Drips of Water” It’s got something special going on that would be super shiny if given  another push of development time

“Award Unit #27342” Ya know what, this game just works. Mechanically grounded and structurally sufficient.

“Yes. Second breakfast.” You just haven’t gotten enough and NEED to play it again and again and again.

“A Breeze Before The Storm” Freshest gameplay experience

“Melted Chocolate Bunnies” Intended or not, it’s got a great little easter egg.

“So Very Art” Most delightful visuals

“Wait. We Can Hug Again?!” Most interesting multiplayer experience

“Well Of Course It Does” Crystal clear communication of this year’s theme

Thanks to being 100% online, we can officially be an all-ages event for the purposes of game submission. However, game content and online social interactions should be considered 19+. Participants under the age-of-majority should have guardian consent and guidance as themes, topics, discussion, language usage, and game interactions may breach the PG-13 barrier.  Participation is contingent on adherence to our inclusivity statement and code of ethics as shown on the Insert Game Here website.

Check the website! https://insertgamehere.org

The Secret Theme will drop on Saturday July 10th at noon CST on YouTube. This time around we're hosting a live theme-drop party and brainstorming event via zoom and discord for all participants to find team-members, come up with ideas, and get help starting out with the jam. Keep an eye out here and in the discord for more information.

Submissions will be showcased on the IGH website and itch.io. Anything submitted to itch.io will get voted on for our usual completely nonsensical Awards of Questionable Value, and be given an extra special showcase for all the bragging rights that are associated with made up internet points and silly words.

See you in cyber space, summer jammers.
