Who Can Enter - Game Types

Game Type: In-progress

Developers, bring your in-progress games and challenge yourself to expand on them with the theme of this jam! Toonmaste will judge your game against other in-progress games and give it a Ratio. A Ratio is a calculation of your game’s rating in the competition in proportion to where your game currently is in development.

Toonamaste also welcomes new projects! Take two weeks to develop a new game concept and go up against other new projects!

Showcase Your Game at Toonamaste: Indiecon

Toonamaste will feature the top 5 competitors of each competition at Toonamaste: Indiecon and give each a table and space to showcase their submission!

Theme - Communication

  • In-progress games
    • For your in-progress game to qualify as a submission, you must apply the theme to your game with a new mechanic that is notably representative of the theme.
  • Jam games
    • Jam games can follow the typical game jam formula in terms of following the theme.

Timeframes & Judging Period

Thurs July 6 - Thurs July 20: Game Jam Production Period

Thurs July 20 - Sun July 23: Semi-Final Judging Period

Fri July 28: Grand-Final Judging Period

Competition - Rules

  • In-progress games
    • All submissions of in-progress games must label their submission somewhere at or near the top of the description of the game’s page with [In-Progress] and leave an description of the gameplay only as it pertains to the theme. 
    • In-Progress submissions will be judged solely on the Overall category, marked by the overall enjoyment of other entrants and judges.
  • Jam games
    • All submissions of in-progress games must label their submission somewhere at or near the top of the description of the game’s page with [Jam].
    • Entries will be judged on all categories.

  • Semi Finals
    • The online portion of this competition is judged by other entrants with the exception of Commercial Viability and Technical Prowess. This voting stage is referred to as the Semi Finals. There can be 5 Semi Finalists from each Game Type that can showcase their games at Toonamaste’s Indiecon and move onto the Grand Finals.
  • Grand Finals
    • Grand Finals is judged by special guests on stream in real time at Indiecon based on the same criteria judged in the Semi Finals. Entrants that get a Grand Finals placement have the opportunity to improve on their entry up until a week before the date of Indiecon. Grand Finalists will be prompted to turn in the final form of their submission by e-mail to Plot Armor Studios 7 days before Indiecon.
  • Jammers not able to make Indiecon
    • If you are one of the 5 Semi Finalists and cannot make it to Indiecon, that is fine, you can still ender into the Grand Finals! Your game will be judged as if you were there, and your medal awarded as its deserved!

Competition - Rewards

  • Semi Finals Badge
    • All 5 Semi-Final winners have an opportunity to showcase their game at Indiecon at their own table.
    • All 5 Semi-Final winners will receive a Semi-Finalist’s Harmony Badge.
  • Grand Finals Badge
    • 1 Grand Finals winner will receive a Champion Harmony Badge

Answer submission questions honestly. You will be prompted to answer a few questions when submitting your game. Please answer them to the best of your ability. Giving vague answers is a great way to set off red flags.
