HELLO, WORLD!

Welcome to the INDIE organized game jam! We are welcoming people of all levels to come and participate in this little event where we make and play games! Don't worry, we are not expecting the next triple A title to come out of this event. This is just a safe space for those with even the tiniest interest in game development to come and and play around with their creativity. Our hope is to allow people the opportunity to create an experience that anyone can enjoy and open up a dialogue on the wonderful world of game development!

THEME

The theme will be announced on the day of the jam

RULES

  • THEME -  The game jam will also have a theme that will determine what type of game the participant will make. The theme can be interpretable by the developer but should come with some sort of explanation towards how they integrated the theme. Participants may also choose to not comply with the theme, but remember that it is also part of the criteria when rating the game.
  • ENGINE - We accept any game engine or other means to be used to build the game as long as it can reach its hands to those who want to play it! If you can, build game onto web for easier accessibility!
  • EXTERNAL ASSETS - We allow assets to be borrowed from anywhere in the internet. Just make sure to provide the link of where you got it from.
  • NSFW - Sorry, no NSFW work allowed... this is still an event hosted by a school organization.
  • TEAMS - You are allowed to enter the event with a group of any size! There will be a channel over on our discord to form groups if you don't have one yet ;)
    • When submitting, make sure to credit every member of your team, so we can effectively showcase their work!

VOTING

Again, this is more a casual event to allow people to just have fun making games, but we still want to open these games up for people to rate certain parts of it! This will allow people to gauge what worked out for them and what did not during the project. These are the categories that users are able to rate the game on:

  • GAMEPLAY - How well did the game flow when playing? Were the controls and mechanics introduced well and easy to understand? Were there any bugs that broke the experience for you?
  • AESTHETIC - How well do the assets mesh together with the game's feel? Were all the assets visually consistent with each other? Were there areas that were visually busy or lacking?
  • AUDIO - How well does the music fit in with the game's feel? Did the sound effects provide the appropriate feedback to the actions they're tied with? Did the sound effects ever become intrusive to the experience?
  • CREATIVITY - How different does the game feel from any other game you played? Does the standout or core mechanic of the game introduce a new variance to the genre it is categorized in? Does the game take the theme in an interesting direction?
  • THEME - How well does the game fit the theme? Does the game's presentation require explanation / need to be justified for you to understand how it fits the theme? Again, does the game take the them in an interesting direction?
  • ENJOYMENT - How much fun did you have? No technical knowledge or consideration needed here. Just, how much did you enjoy your time with the game?

On a side note, for how to rate submissions using external assets is up to you. Rule of thumb is to think about whether the assets found and used fit well and add to the vision of the game they wanted to make! Again, keep in mind that this is a game jam for all levels of entry. You can rate submissions however you like, but make sure to be kind and give constructive criticism wherever needed. We all just want to improve and have fun while doing so! With that being said, we hope you enjoy the event and we encourage you to post progress in the discord server for feedback during the jam! If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to message one of the officers in the discord server and we will try to get back to you as soon as possible!
