Join the Fear: The First-Ever Indie Horror Games Community Jam!
We’re thrilled to announce the launch of the very first Indie Horror Games Community Game Jam! This is a call to all indie horror creators, newcomers, and veterans alike to come together, share ideas, and craft terrifying experiences. Whether you're a developer, artist, writer, or sound designer, if you love horror, you're welcome. Let’s build something unforgettable... and maybe a little unsettling.
How does it work?
The Jam can be completed solo, or as part of a team (but please take into account any prizes given will need to be shared) and you may use any game engine of your choice. Godot, Unreal Engine, Unity, Game maker, you name it. As long as it is a game that people can play. It counts!
The Rules:
It should go without saying that the only rule that will be strictly enforced is that NO GEN-AI is to be used. Games that use Gen-AI will be excluded from the Jam. Please stick to original art made by yourself and your team, or assets purchased/obtained using the appropriate licenses. The same goes for music. Since a lot of content creators will be playing these games, we don't want to give any teams headaches down the line.
Other than that. HAVE FUN!
The Dates:
The Jam will run from August 1st all the way through until September 5th 2:30pm which should allow people to get a small game completed in time.
The Theme:
(Obviously Horror)
"You are not supposed to be here..."
Think, unsettling presence, forbidden places, cosmic dread. Those sorts of things.
Take from that what you will. It's very cryptic, open to interpretation & I would expect to see quite the plethora of games being made. In terms of additional notes, really it is up to you.
Ranking:
The entries will be ranked once submitted based on 4 key categories.
- How well did the game incorporate the theme?
- How good was the sound design?
- How good was the story?
- How scary was it?
Voting will take place for 5 days after the event has finished to ensure people have enough time to play & vote on the criteria.
The dates are September 5th until September 10th.
Prizes:
Given how people will be coming from different countries I will endeavour to provide a Steam gift card for the amount of £25 in your local currency.
FAQ:
Games must be submitted no later than 2:30pm on September 5th so that voting can start immediately.
No stress! Unfinished or buggy games are absolutely accepted. No submission is perfect!
Games with mature content are accepted when flagged. For disturbing or inappropriate content, we ask that jammers use common sense and flag this on the game page.
We reserve the right to remove any games that are not appropriate or flagged correctly, so please reach out if you have any doubts.
Given itch.io recent decision to ban sexual NSFW games, we kindly ask that you do not include any form of sexual content in your games as doing so can result in an account ban from itch.io directly.
If you find a bug during the submission period of the game jam you may re-upload an updated version of your game. Re-uploads outside of the deadline will be excluded from the Jam.
JOIN THE DISCORD:
We have a discord that you can join where there will be a dedicated area for Jam updates & news along with the announcement of the winner, so make sure you join if you have your eyes on the prize!
