I'd like to introduce NDS(i)Brew scene's first homebrew contest called, "iBrew Festival"

For many years, hackers/reverse-engineers have dedicated their time, knowledge, and research to open up a door to allow unsigned code/applications onto a stock firmware. This resulted a growth of programmers and developers to create homebrew applications and games to enhance the user experience.

This contest serves a purpose to bring the old and new developers into the community to create new and innovative homebrew games for the Nintendo NDS/DSi. This means anyone is allowed to participate. This contest also celebrates the ongoing growth in the homebrew community.

SUBMISSION START DATE: November 13th, 2020

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: December 15th, 2020

VOTING ENDS: December 18th, 2020

Q & A:

  • What is the prize?
    • First place will receive a 1 month subscription of Discord Nitro.
  • Who's voting?
    • Anyone is allowed to vote :)
  • I'm new to coding and I do not know how to get started. What do I do?
  • What's a good devkit toolchain to use?
  • "Is the contest meant more for people that already have experience with nds homebrew, or is it for everyone (beginners included)? Will there be any restrictions/resources to help with this balance?"

    • That's a good question actually. I wanted this to be meant for everyone, which made me hold this contest for a month long, to give everyone time to learn or polish their projects. There's really no restrictions or preferred resources to use since the goal is to create some awesome new homebrew games for the Nintendo DS/DSi. I do however recommend the beginners to join the servers listed above to get some assistance.
  • I want to learn everything about the Nintendo DS/DSi hardware, addresses, and code.  Where should I reference?
    • nocash was very very generous to take the time, knowledge, and resources to create a page specifically for this matter. I do recommend to read his gbatek page.
  • Can it also be a library/framework instead of a full homebrew? Like a "minimalistic webkit", etc.
    • If it's a browser game to work on the DSi Browser, no. If the runs on the nds_homebrew menu, flashcard, or TWiLightMenu, then you have nothing to worry about.
  • Is this like homebrew showcase or something?
    • Hmmm, I guess so. :p
