The HYTOPIA Game Jam is a weekend-long game jam where participants compete across several categories for cash prizes and the opportunity for an internship with the HYTOPIA development team!  No resumes necessary, let's see what you can make! All games must be made using the HYTOPIA SDK and posted on HYTOPIA .

HYTOPIA is a cutting edge gaming platform that combines the best of Minecraft and Roblox. Users can create and publish online cross-platform multiplayer experiences in just a couple of hours using TypeScript and JavaScript. The HYTOPIA SDK and Map Editor are very easy to pick up with the in-depth documentation provided. HYTOPIA handles all of the complicated multiplayer and server backend, letting users focus on creating the best experiences possible. With hundreds of premade assets to choose from, you don't need to be a professional artist to make a good looking game!

The  internship includes direct mentorship from the HYTOPIA development team. You’ll gain hands-on experience that will help you grow as a developer and strengthen your resume.

All games must be made using the HYTOPIA SDK and published on HYTOPIA to be considered for prizes

Games must not include any NSFW content

Games must be made in the time frame, but you can use any assets you own the rights to

AI tools are allowed and encouraged

You can work solo or in teams (no limit on team size)

After the submission, there will be a 4-day rating period where anyone who submitted a game can rate other submissions based on these 5 categories:

Overall - How good is the game overall?

Enjoyment - How much did you enjoy playing the game?

Creativity - How creative is the game?

Theme - How well did the game fit the theme?

Visuals - How good are the game's visuals?

After the rating period has concluded, the HYTOPIA team will play the top 10 games and decide the winners of the cash prizes and internship position. 

The theme for this jam will be announced once the game begins.

Once you have completed your game, you must upload it to HYTOPIA.

Use the link above to submit your game. After submission, the HYTOPIA team will validate your game and publish it. Once published to HYTOPIA, you can play your game and share it to itch. There will be a grace period for submissions to make sure everyone gets their game in. If you need assistance, reach out on discord.

To create your itch page, make sure you have your HYTOPIA URL handy. You will create your desired URL when you submit your game over https://hytopia.com/create/. This URL will start working once your game is approved by the team and published to HYTOPIA, it is the link to your game. It will look like this:  "https://hytopia.com/games/yoururl/ "

When creating your game's page, make sure to fill in all the required information according to the tutorial, and additionally make sure to select the “Gamejam” tag for it.

Once you have submitted your game for approval, get your link and create your itch page.

Make sure the "Kind of project" is Downloadable.

Now, scroll down to where it says "Uploads", as shown below.

Click on the "Add External File" on the right hand side, and then paste in the URL to your game on HYTOPIA. It does not matter if it still hasn't been approved by the HYTOPIA team, as you will already have your game URL prior to their approval.

Now you are done and ready to submit your itch page to the jam like usual!

Once approved by the HYTOPIA team - which could take up to 24 hours - your game will be ready to be played on HYTOPIA.

You retain all rights to any game or product you create in this jam. By uploading your game to HYTOPIA, you agree to abide by the rules and regulations set by the platform. If you have any questions, reach out on discord.
