Welcome

To celebrate the launch of Horror Game Kit 1.5, we’re bringing you a new type of challenge! We’re providing detailed theme settings to help you enhance your game development skills by incorporating popular elements in horror game design.

Plus, you'll learn to promote your game by completing a video creation task.

Theme

SCP 173

Background

Immerse yourself in the terrifying world of SCP-173, one of the most iconic entities from the SCP Foundation. Known for its unsettling behavior, SCP-173 only moves when unobserved, making every moment of inattention potentially deadly. In this game jam, you'll create a horror game centered around the chilling experience of confronting SCP-173. To elevate your game design, take advantage of the latest update to the horror game kit, featuring the new Screen Effect Package. We encourage all creators to use these effects to amplify the suspense and immerse players in the haunting atmosphere of SCP-173.

In this game jam, you might design a survival horror experience where players must navigate the perilous environment of an SCP containment facility, constantly maintaining line of sight with SCP-173. The player could be a security guard during a containment breach, a researcher documenting SCP-173’s behavior, or an unwitting individual who has wandered into the SCP’s path. The challenge lies in managing sightlines, solving environmental puzzles, and avoiding deadly encounters with SCP-173 as it relentlessly pursues the player whenever it’s not observed.

Note: This is a game design example which intended to help jammers quickly grasp the theme and inspire them to create their own unique storyline. Your creation does not have to perfectly match the example.

Key Elements to Include:

- SCP-173 Mechanics: Incorporate SCP-173’s unique behavior into your gameplay, creating a constant sense of urgency and danger. Players must keep SCP-173 in their line of sight to prevent it from advancing and attacking.

- Screen Effect Package: Utilize the new screen effects to add layers of tension, such as visual glitches, screen flickers, and audio distortions that simulate the stress and fear of facing SCP-173.

- Story Background: Please create your own storyline that fits the theme.

- Survival and Strategy: Players must explore the containment facility or other dangerous places where fit the theme, finding ways to secure doors, navigate the environment, and use the space to their advantage while keeping SCP-173 at bay.

- Atmospheric Horror: Use environmental storytelling, sound design, and the Screen Effect Package to create an oppressive, fear-inducing atmosphere that captures the essence of being hunted by SCP-173.

Hints:

1. Research SCP-173 to understand its characteristics and behavior, ensuring an authentic and engaging portrayal in your game.

2. Leverage the Screen Effect Package to enhance the horror elements with visual and audio cues that reflect the high-stress situation of a containment breach.

3. Design gameplay that emphasizes observation, quick thinking, and careful movement to maintain safety from SCP-173.

The awarding rule is that if the number of downloads exceeds 100, we will give an additional reward corresponding to 10% of the number of downloads. Each 100 downloads is counted as a level interval. For example, if the number of downloads reaches 100, we will offer a reward of 10USD$; If it reaches 200, we will offer a reward of 20USD$. The upper limit of the bonus is 50USD$. We will conduct data statistics according to the download data within 7 days after the end of each Game jam.

Based on our experience, we suggest that everyone carry out more game promotion activities outside the website and carefully decorate their own game pages.

Some tips for increasing the number of downloads:

1. Detailed game introductions

2. A more exquisite display page

3. High-quality video presentation

4. Actively spread on various major social networking platforms
