Welcome

To celebrate the launch of Horror Game Kit 1.5, we’re bringing you a new type of challenge! We’re providing detailed theme settings to help you enhance your game development skills by incorporating popular elements in horror game design.

Plus, you'll learn to promote your game by completing a video creation task.

Theme

                                                                                                   Museum in the Midnight

Background

Analog horror collides with the eerie stillness of a museum in this unsettling game jam theme. With the latest update to theYahaha horror game kit, including the new Screen Effect Package, you're equipped to create a haunting atmosphere that draws players into the unsettling world of forgotten artifacts and eerie phenomena. We encourage everyone to experiment with these new tools in their games.

Imagine a museum filled with ancient statues, each one a testament to lost civilizations and forgotten gods. By day, these statues stand proudly in the grand hall, their faces frozen in time. But as night falls, something strange happens—the heads of the statues vanish, leaving behind a chilling, headless silence. As an intrepid explorer, you’ve been drawn to this mysterious museum, tasked with uncovering the dark secret behind these disappearing heads. (Please feel free to unleash your imagination and create your own story.)

In this game jam, you’ll create a horror game that combines the unsettling atmosphere of analog horror with the mystery of a haunted museum. Players will explore the museum’s darkened corridors, piecing together clues from distorted video feeds, eerie audio recordings, and cryptic notes. The story unfolds through fragmented media, revealing the terrifying truth behind the vanishing heads and the curse that haunts the museum.

Key Elements to Include:

  • Analog Horror Aesthetics: Utilize grainy visuals, distorted audio, and retro media elements to create a sense of dread and unease, as if the player is experiencing a nightmare through old, corrupted footage.
  • Story Background: Please create your own storyline that fits the theme.
  • Exploration and Puzzle-Solving: Players must explore the museum, searching for clues and solving puzzles to uncover the mystery of the disappearing heads and the sinister force behind them.
  • Psychological Horror: The game should focus on building tension through subtle, unsettling changes in the environment, with the headless statues serving as a constant reminder of the dark power at play.

Hints:

  1. Research the analog horror genre to understand how to use atmosphere, implication, and fragmented storytelling to create fear.
  2. Experiment with the Screen Effect Package to add layers of visual and auditory distortion, enhancing the feeling of being trapped in a nightmarish reality.
  3. Design puzzles that reveal the museum's dark history, with each solved puzzle bringing players closer to the horrifying truth.

Special Task

1. We have prepared a tutorial on how to replace Hiding Place , and now we invite you to try replacing it in your own game!

2. Take a screenshot or record a video of the Hiding Place  in your game and put it on your game itch submission page.
