THE GUNNER PARADE '23 GAME JAM

Ever wanted to make your own score attack shoot 'em up? Here's your chance! The Gunner Parade '23 game jam is a three week long competition to make a fun and engaging caravan shmup!

What's a "Caravan" Shmup?

A caravan shmup is primarily a short 2-5 minute score attack shoot 'em up, where the goal is to get the highest score possible. Caravan shmups often feature ground targets to destroy, enemy formations that spawn after previous formations are destroyed, and secret bonuses from shooting hidden targets or from destroying multiple enemies at once. Check out these videos for examples of the caravan shmup genre.

Buuuuuut...

The game does not necessarily be a pure shmup! This year, challenge yourself to make a caravan game of a genre of your choice, whether it be a run n gun, a rail shooter, FPS, or heck, even a dating sim!

RULES

Participants will have from July 20th till the end of July 31st to create and submit a caravan shmup.

We will present the theme when the game jam starts, but the theme is entirely optional; no penalties will be given for not following the theme. There is no limit on team size, and there are no restrictions on game engine or development tools.

Games that feature Heavy NSFW (No Erotica, slightly lewd is allowed), racial/gruesome imagery, or any sort of disrespectful content are not allowed and will be disqualified.

Participants that use AI in order to generate sprites or other means of media that isn't strictly used for reference will also be disqualified.

At the end of the jam the judges will vote on which games excel in gameplay, design, with the main criteria being the game overall. There will also be a criteria of how caravan like the game is. The winners will be announced on August 6th.
