GAMES_YOU_PLAY_IN_THE_LAB

Your Rat Lord Gump has a keycard. Don't ask whose it was.

For the next two weeks you and every other rat in the colony have got inside MUN's facilities, surrounded by more machines than any of us have logins for. Design a game before somebody notices.

WHAT_HAS_HAPPENED

Gump Jam is a game jam hosted by your Rat Lord himself, it'll run for two weeks and at the end will have presentations for all those who wish to present.

No experience required, join your fellow Lab Rats and become one of the enlightened.

One hard rule: it has to run in a browser. How else would you expect to play?

You do not need to be a real lab rat at MUN to break in with us.

THE_THEME

Games you'd play in the lab.

Think Newgrounds, Kongregate, Andkon, Armour Games, and Nitrome. Re-live your youth and become the same developer that rotted your brain when you were a child.

Some angles. None mandatory, and no angle is off-limits just because someone else called it first:

->  A game about monkeys defending themselves from balloons

RECOVERY_STEPS

1.  Join the jam. Button's at the top of this page. Free, one click, no commitment. Plenty of people join and don't finish, and that's fine.

2.  Build, any time inside the two weeks. Alone, or in groups either works.

3.  Submit before the doors relock. Upload a web build and tick “This file will be played in the browser” so it's playable straight from your page. If it needs downloading, it isn't finished.

4.  Play everyone else's. They're all one click away. Enjoy the fruits of our labour, and remember to rate your favourites as well as it is a ranked jam.

HANDLED_EXCEPTIONS

[?]  I've never made a game before.
I've stared into the void when it comes to flash games, the bar is non-existent and I have faith in all participate to produce something that's vaguely playable.

[?]  Does it really have to run in the browser?
Yes. That's the one rule. While clever lab rats could work around this we must be accommodating to the welps who cannot.

[?]  My engine doesn't export to web.
Then use a different one for two weeks. Godot, Construct, GameMaker, Unity, PICO-8 and plain HTML in a text editor all get you there.

[?]  Can I enter on my own?
Most people will be alone but if you wanna pair up feel free.

[?]  How finished does it have to be?
Playable by someone who isn't you, without you standing over them explaining it. That's the whole bar. Even if you're halfway there submit it and mark it as a stepping stone in your journey.

[?]  Two weeks is a long jam. Do I have to work the whole time?
No. The two week period exists to accommodate, entries can vary between a weekend's work and the full time period laid out.

[?]  Can I keep working on it afterwards?
It's your game. Take it wherever you want.

[?]  Do I have to put a rat in it?
No. But the Rat Lord will notice those who support the cause.
