Overview

Hi there! We are the Game Design Society (GDS) and we love games.

As we are a multi-disciplinary club, we wanted to have our designers, programmers, artists, musicians, project managers, and basically anyone who loves games as much as we do, come together to create something great. But we know first-hand how challenging it can be to break into the game industry; let alone make a game.

We know the grind all too well, and we’re SO FREAKING PROUD OF YOU for committing (even when you thought you couldn’t possibly add one more thing to your schedule - let alone a week-long Game Jam!). We hope that this Game Jam makes you fall more in love with the wonderful world of video games, and helps you learn more about yourself as a designer, programmer, artist, musician, project manager, or gamer.

This game jam may only run for a week, but we hope you’ll gain skills, knowledge and connections that will last for much longer. Our biggest piece of advice is to take advantage of all the learning opportunities we have available from our discord and resource package.

So whether you win or lose, make a game or have attempted something, we’re grateful GDS could be part of your gaming journey.

So get out there and let’s get jamming!

You got this!

What is a Game Jam?

A game jam is a creative event where game developers, designers, and enthusiasts come together to create video games or non-digital games, such as board games or card games, within a limited time frame. The objective is to rapidly prototype game designs and share new ideas with the game industry. During this time, participants work collaboratively or individually to create a fully functioning game from beginning to end, including game mechanics, artwork, sound design, and playtesting.

Game jams are an excellent opportunity for game developers and enthusiasts to hone their skills, try out new game concepts, network with other game developers, and gain exposure in the game industry. They also provide a fun and supportive environment where gamers can learn from each other and collaborate on new and exciting projects!
