**April Grand Strategy Month**
April is officially **Grand Strategy Month**!
The whole month is dedicated to the greatest macro strategy games, empires, diplomacy, geopolitics, grand decisions and systems that actually matter.
Welcome to the **Grand Strategy Jam** - your chance to build the next big thing in the genre we all love.
---
**Grand Strategy Jam** is an event dedicated to designing grand strategy games on a macro scale.
We don’t expect huge amounts of content or polished graphics. Focus on creating **systems** where the player makes decisions at the level of a nation, empire, or global faction. Smaller, playable prototypes are very welcome if they capture the depth of the mechanics well.
**Jam Goal**
Create a game built around grand strategy principles.
Your project should put strong emphasis on **at least one** of the following:
- Territory management on a global map (macro management)
- Complex diplomacy and relations between independent factions
- Dynamic geopolitics and fluidly changing borders
- Macroeconomic simulation and long-term technology development
- Wars and conflicts resolved at the strategic level (no unit micro-management)
**Rules**
- New projects are recommended, but developing an existing project is also allowed.
- Any engine and programming language is fine.
- Teams and solo creators are welcome.
- Pre-made assets (free or purchased) are allowed if you have the proper license.
- Use of AI tools is permitted, but **must be clearly stated** in the project description.
- The submitted project must be playable.
**Rating / Feedback Criteria**
Even though there are no official prizes, here’s what makes a great Grand Strategy Jam entry:
- **Strategic Depth**
Decisions feel meaningful and have real long-term consequences.
- **Grand Strategy Focus** ← Primary focus of the jam
The game clearly emphasizes at least one core pillar: macro territory management, complex diplomacy, dynamic geopolitics, macroeconomy & tech, or strategic-level warfare.
- **System Interaction & Emergence**
Different systems (economy, diplomacy, map, tech…) interact in interesting ways and create cool emergent moments.
- **Clarity & Playability**
The prototype is understandable and fun to play even if it’s small.
- **Ambition vs. Execution**
Smart scope and good delivery within the jam time limit.
**How to submit your project**
1. Make your game during the jam.
2. Publish it on itch.io.
3. Add the tag **#GrandStrategyJam** and submit it to this jam page.
