Wildcards

Wildcards are an optional limitation to add a unique challenge in addition to the theme. Pick one, none or all; it's up to you! Ignoring wildcards completely will not incur a deduction in judging.

Please include the wildcard(s) in your splash screen (recommended), main menu, in-game, or credits screen to let us know what cards were used. All wildcard images will be available in a Google Drive via the folder path Wildcards -> GWJ #

Rules

  1. This is an exclusive engine jam, meaning only submissions created using the Godot Engine shall be allowed.
    • If you are new to Godot, we suggest using version 4 for a stable experience.
  2. This is an exclusive jam, meaning that entries made to both this jam and all others shall be removed unless otherwise allowed by the organizers.
  3. Reusing existing code and assets is allowed to an extent:
    • No re-skinning of games made outside of the jam.
    • A majority of the code and/or assets must be made in the jam's time frame.
    • No AI generated work. This includes using tools to create assets for your game as well as using AI tools to program your game. Procedural generation (i.e. randomly generated levels or items is allowed).
  4. Submissions require an export to Windows, macOS, and Linux. In lieu of submitting 3 OS versions, an HTML5 export is acceptable. Therefore, you must export to all 3 operating systems AND/OR upload as HTML5. Please see under Links below on how to Export your game. Submissions not including this will be removed.
  5. We do not tolerate racism, sexism, or any other form of discrimination when it comes to participation in the jam or submissions made.
  6. No new content may be uploaded after the submission deadline (no music, no polish, no tweaks). The only approved changes are GAME BREAKING bug fixes. Please include other bugs (e.g. doesn't play in full-screen, etc.) as information on your entry's page.
  7. Submissions may be removed at the sole discretion of the organizers.
  8. Follow the theme and have fun!

FAQ

When is the jam?
The jam always starts on the second Friday of the month.

Do I have to do everything myself?
Not at all! If you want to use public domain art/sounds or the like, that's entirely fine. And we encourage jammers to team up, too!

Can I use stuff I've already made?
To an extent. The spirit of the jam is that you make something new, not rejig an existing game to fit the criteria.

Can I update the game during the voting period?
No, unless it is a severely game-breaking bug. If this is the case, please contact the organizers on Discord. They will review on a case-by-case basis. Please playtest your game both in engine and as an export on your itch.io game page!

We believe that accessibility in video games is an important component to creating a great game. Here's a great article on why accessibility matters. We encourage teams to use the Accessibility Guidelines Basic List and check off features as they develop their game. You can view the full accessibility guidelines here.

Judging

Jam participants and any contributors will be judging games on the following:

Theme:
How well does the game adhere to the chosen theme?

Fun:
Was it fun? Enjoyable?

Controls:

Graphics:
Does the game look good? Does the art style fit the type of game? Is the pixel art charming? (EXAMPLE ONLY - Pixel art not required)

Audio:

Accessibility:
How well did the game implement features from this list?

Originality:
Were you pleasantly surprised by some game mechanic or design in the game?
