About the Criterea
This is a ranked game jam, so the judging criterea matters a lot. Only participants can rate projects, this is so you understand the amount of effort other participants put in their projects
- Use of Recipes: it's about how well the features presented in the book were applied to the project
- Creativity: it's about copying, combining, and transforming references. This goes from mixing and matching the book's content to mixing your favorite games or mixing game genres.
- Mechanics: it's about creating interesting incentives for players to interact with your game. These can range from action elements (mechanics that test players' abilitiy to react in real time to game events) to adventure elements (mechanics that test players' ability to reveal information about the game in the game) or strategy elements (mechanics that test players' ability to manage game resources).
- Story: it's about how well a game progresses a player through its events. Did the game entice you to see what happens once you complete a puzzle? Or where the neighbor's dog was hiding? Or did it bored you and the motivations to reveal the outcome were quite uninteresting?
- Graphics: it's about how well the game visually communicates its information. Does the character look like an adventurer lost in an isle? Do the world's landscape communicate a desert you need to traverse to find water? Do the visual effects communicate when you hit or miss something important?
- Sound: it's about how well the game communicates its information with audio. Do the explosions feel threatening? Do the characters voice communicate their personality? Do the footsteps sound like walking in sand when you're walking in sand and like walking in wood when you're walking on wood?
- Music: it's about communicating and moving the player through the emotional landscape of your game. Does it feel thrilling entering in an abandonned house? Does it feel exciting battling against 3 goblins? Does it feel even more exciting battling against 10 goblins? Does it feel even more exciting fighting a boss while battling 10 goblins?
