A longer form of the PlayJam, inspired by NaNoWriMo, this jam's goal is simple:

get something done.

Two weeks, no themes, no ranking - just you, and the game for Playdate you've been meaning to create.

The Playdate is a handheld 1-bit gaming console. Its cute and yellow form boasts a d-pad, two face buttons, and a crank (the kind you turn). Featuring a full SDK equipped with Lua and C compatibility, the Playdate should quench your thirst for making and distributing casual retro-style games. Join our friendly community and make your mark in this two-week long game jam!

The Playdate community is full of support, and developers of all different skill levels!

Panic's provided Playdate SDK can be located here.

Is Lua and C too overwhelming for you? Try Panic's Pulp! Described as a "click-and-place game maker," this tool is surprisingly versatile!

There are plenty of resources out there for making a game for Playdate! The wiki has a thorough compilation of tools for use with the SDK, located here.

Text not to your speed? Try watching SquidGod's videos on Playdate development!

Need quick questions answered? We have an entire discord full of Playdate fanatics just like you!

NO PLAYDATE?

That's totally fine! Panic has a simulator built into the SDK that allows you to test and play your creations!

1. While you may plan before the jam, try to keep most of your work contained within the jam!

2. Perfection is not needed.

The goal of this jam is to get a sort of "draft" or demo of your game created. That's it! If you finish, good for you, but it's not necessary!

3. Games must be for the Playdate.

4. Nothing bigoted. If it's NSFW, please tag it as such.
