Welcome Traveler, and hopefully future game dev!

Join the discord: https://discord.gg/7UuqpqB8mm

You're about to enter in to the wild world of developing video games.

But first some guidelines to help you on your way:

Q.) What the hell is a Glomble?

It is what Itch.io is to Steam, but with video sharing instead of game sharing. It's a cool community full of creative people creating videos for the love of creating videos. Go to glomble.com to sign up today!

The THEME IS:
https://glomble.com/videos/1KWDjeknZVO8

Dual theme: 2000s UI and Mutations

2000s UI

Have your menus / interface look like something out of a 2000s game, website, magazine.

This website has some good examples,

https://frutigeraeroarchive.org/

Also, you can look up games from that era at the Games UI Database if you want game specific examples.

https://gameuidatabase.com/

Mutations

Have your characters mutate when they get close to chemical waste, or have the creatures in your world mutate when they get too close to magical crystals! It's a pretty open theme so get creative!

Q.) What are the rules of the jam?

1.) Absolutely no AI can be used when creating the games. Glomble is AI free, and so is this jam.

2.) You must upload a video on Glomble with a minimum duration of 1min 30secs. It could be a short trailer of your game, or a video talking about developing it. Anything goes as long as it is directly related to your game.

3.) No limitations on the tools, however if you want to be able to make it easier for us to judge it is encouraged that you output in an HTML5 format. Most game engines have the ability to do this, or there are tools available to help you with creating an HTML5 build.

4.) Scoring will be based around the quality of your video, the quality of your game, and how close it sticks to the theme.

5.) All assets must be created or procured during the duration of the gamejam. You can use public domain art from opengameart, or from asset packs on itch. Again, no AI generated content. We will be looking for it.

Q.) What tools should I use?

The sky is the limit! But for some recommendations, try Godot, GBSTUDIO, NES Maker, or RPG Maker (I recommend the older ones like RPG Maker 2000 / 2003 as they are great for beginners and you can use the EasyRPG tool to to run them on multiple platforms, including game consoles and Linux). Try to check and see if they have a way of exporting to HTML5!
