Glendowie College Game Jam: Design a Game for Growth! (24 Hour Brainstorm, 48 Hour Design)

Calling all creative game designers! It's time for the Glendowie College Game Jam! Team up and design a game that tackles one of the core themes of our enRICHment program: Relationships, Identity, Hope, or Challenge. You'll have 24 hours to brainstorm ideas, followed by 48 hours to design and create your game concept, all while competing for house points and glory!

The Challenge (40 points):

Round 1: Brainstorming Blitz (24 hours)

  1. Topic Time (5 points): On Tuesday, you'll be randomly assigned one of the enRICHment program themes: Relationships, Identity, Hope, or Challenge. Use the next 24 hours to brainstorm ideas with your team!

Round 2: Design & Creation (Wednesday Lunchtime - Friday 9am)

  1. Concept & Creativity (10 points):
    • Develop a fun and engaging game concept that explores your assigned theme. (15 points)
    • Briefly describe how players will interact with your game (mechanics). (5 points)
  2. Target Audience (5 points): Who is your ideal player for this game? Consider their age and interests.
  3. Glendowie Spirit! (Up to 5 points): Explain how your game concept promotes school spirit or Glendowie College values. (Up to 5 points)

Round 3: Prototype Power (Up to 20 points):

The Big Reveal & Recognition (Friday Lunchtime):

  • The most impressive games (based on the rubric) will win house points and bragging rights!

House Point Prizes:

  • 1st Place (50 points): A truly innovative and engaging game that masterfully explores its assigned theme!
  • 2nd Place (40 points): A creative concept with clear mechanics and a strong connection to the theme.
  • 3rd Place (30 points): A well-developed game idea that reflects the chosen theme.
  • All Participants (Participation Points): Every team gets house points for their creativity and school spirit!

Remember:

  • Teamwork is key! Collaborate effectively with your team to bring your game to life.
  • Fun and engagement are essential! Make sure your game is enjoyable to play.
  • Focus on a clear connection between your game and its assigned enRICHment program theme.
  • Think creatively and have fun! Good luck, game designers!
  • Check the digital copy of this instruction sheet if you get confused any time during the competition. Some of the student leaders will be there to help you out if something goes wrong logistically.
  • As the judges will be marking blind, make sure NOT to have any distinguishing features of the game, (or name it) anything to do with your house. This will limit the ability of the judges to mark fairly and impartially. ONLY MR So will know which team has which topic and he isn’t part of the judging panel.
