This jam is now over. It ran from 2024-09-30 14:30:00 to 2024-11-30 13:29:59.
A game jam is a short event where you make a game in a set amount of time. You can work by yourself or with others. There is a central theme you must build your idea around.
We can't get to the theme yet, wait a sec while we try to defeat the dragon protecting the theme
Join our discord and put your group in - makes everything easier and you have somewhere you can discuss your game
Any program/engine/framework is cool to use, and that goes for art programs as well. If you want a better idea as to what you might use, you can check out the end of this document or check out this website here: https://develop.games/. (Shout out to Pirate Software). Submissions must be playable as a browser game. Links to how this can be done are also attached at the end.
While we permit the use of assets, we recommend you try to make things yourself. If you do use assets just make sure to check their licensing terms and link them in a design document or in the description of your project. AI art or music is not allowed.
We highly recommend you create a design document to go along with your game. It's a great place to store all of your ideas so that the group is all on the same page. High achiever ahh example (notice the project tracker table at the end)
Here are my uneducated takes on different software -
Pygame:
Pros: if you've done year 10 DT you probably already know how to use this
Cons: you have to do everything from scratch which is an absolute pain and pretty time consuming
Godot:
Pros: python based language that is really easy to pick up if you have very basic python knowledge
Cons: may not have as many quality resources as it is a newer opensource program that's always changing
Unity:
Pros: industry standard and lots of features for everything you need
Cons: you need to know c# and supporting evil :(
Unreal Engine:
Pros: great for 3D
Cons: I don't think exporting to webgl is built in so you're going to have to figure that out on your own srry
Photoshop:
Pros: school provides it for free!
Cons: supporting evil :(
Krita:
Pros: free to use after you leave school and has most of photoshops features
Cons: idk I'm biased
Asesprite:
Pros: if you go to their git hub you can build it for free and now you have really cool pixel art software
Cons: you have to build it and honestly I was too lazy so I supported the developers
Blender for you 3D folk or Maya if you love pain (I worked with Maya for a year and my god is it bad)
Microsoft Paint:
Pros: it's funny
Cons: only for the first few days
FamiStudios:
Pros: free retro music :)
Cons: only retro music :(
Anvil Studio:
Don't know enough to even make even an uneducated take
FL Studios:
Pros: some professional shii
Cons: $160 ;-;
Audacity:
Pros: wanna make an a cappella soundtrack?
Cons: welp good luck
