CGI and Visual Effects Challenge

To help you bridge the gap between your college course and university we’re inviting you to take part in a brand new competition aimed at college students and applicants. You’ll be tasked with creating your own designs, concepts, art assets, animations or visual effects towards solving a brief. Students who submit will have a chance to win some fantastic prizes.

There are a variety of briefs available, including:

  • Animation
  • Games Art
  • Concept Art for Games and Film
  • CGI and Visual Effects

Each of the briefs are designed to be a good indication of the sort of work you’ll be doing on the course. The technology required to complete the challenge is freely available online and we’ll also be providing some helpful links to videos if you’ve never used the software before.

To help you along the way we’ll be looking to organise some virtual workshops which you can take part in. Hopefully give you a few ideas that you take away and apply to your own project.

Prizes will be award to 1st , 2nd and 3rd place.  All prize winners and honourable mentions will recieve a certificate.

CGI AND VISUAL EFFECTS

There are two briefs based on your familiarity with 3D software:

1) To download the student version of Substance Painter and paint a custom texture for “Ballfoot Guy” in any style you want.

2) To produce a piece of work in a visual medium – film, photography, drawing or sculpture on the theme of “Isolation”.

Technology/Software Required:

1) Download the 30 day free trial of Substance Painter

https://www.substance3d.com/download/

Follow the introductory tutorial from Substance

https://academy.substance3d.com/courses/getting-started-with-substance-painter-2018/youtube-IGGQl9kVB1M

Download the simple model from this location and paint whatever texture onto the surface you want!

2) Using a visual medium (film, animation, photography portfolio, drawing or sculpture) create a response to the word ‘Isolation’. Try and do something more original than a photo of empty streets! You can use tools like after effects, photoshop or even trick photography and special effects to make your images more fantastical or sci-fi in feel.

How to Submit

To submit your work you'll need to create an account on here (itch.io) first

You should then be able to go into your profile and create a project containing screenshots/videos/links of your work.

You can then submit this newly created project to this "Jam"
