Welcome to the second ever game jam held at Portland State University! Since we are all in quarantine this time, everything will be run through the GEMS discord. If you are a Portland State student and do not have access to the discord then please reach out at gems@pdx.edu.

Theme: Sloppy Adaptations

Time Frame: Friday 4/17 4pm to Sunday 4/19 4pm

Suggested Timeline:

  • Friday: 
    • 4-6: idea generation
    • 6-9: sketch out theme and mechanics, delegate responsibilities 
  • Saturday:
    •  morning-6: implement gameplay mechanics, generate music and art assets
    • 6-sleep: no new features, link all the assets to mechanics
  • Sun: 
    • Polish/ QA

Diversifiers: 

Extra themes for if you want to add some extra flavor (3 max):

  • Web based: build the game for html5 so it doesn't need to be downloaded. 
  • Open source: use MIT license and  Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International Creative Commons License
  • High score: Include a scoring mechanism and save between sessions
  • GEMS art:  use art from GEMS or create assets to be used in GEMS future promotional material
  •  Voting:  incorporate voting into your game
  •  Easter Egg : include a hidden area or effect that can be found through clues
  •  Verbal SFX: All sound effects are made verbally "pew pew" 
  •  Minigames: game is a collection of smaller games with different mechanics
  •  Physical manual: make a physical manual explaining controls and back
