GDL - August 2022 Jam

Welcome to the 33rd GDL Game Jam! (Please read below as some things have changed)

One of the hardest parts of Game Developing is just making something, Putting it out there for all the world to see, it can be so daunting, But remember developing games is a skill just like any other, It can be learned, It can be repeated and you will improve over time.

The fastest way to improve is to train! Make something every chance you get and that's where these game jams come in. The purpose of the GDL Game Jams are not about the prizes. Dreaming up an idea, Putting those ideas into actionable steps and following through. Only by first creating something, can we improve.

Theme will be released at start time! type /gamejam info to get the hint at any time, a discord DM also goes out at start time with the jam theme if you use /gamejam register. join discord.gg/gamedev to join the server!

THEME : "Death is not the end... Death is progress."

• Contestants will have 3 Days of development time.
• All Game engines are welcome.
• Teams are allowed (Prize will be split). 
• The person who uploads the game to itch is who will receive the prize.
• You have full creative freedom to make what you wish, However the spirit of the jam is to follow the theme and make the best game you can, If you don't you probably won't get disqualified but people tend to vote for the best game true to the theme.
• You can use any artwork, code or audio that is open source and free for all to use.. Free assets, paid assets and open source is ok, Previous projects are not.. reusing previous made games is not.
• Voting is handled by Itch on a 1-5 star scale in 4 categories.voting is open ONLY TO ENTRANTS / CONTRIBUTORS.
• There is a rating queue which means you must rate at least 5 random games before you get to rate any game you choose. this helps keep ratings more even.
• GDL Moderators are welcome to participate.
• Once submissions close, submissions are locked, you cannot edit them once voting has begun. You have been warned.

Submissions 

• Submit your game to Itch.io and to the submission page and be sure to fill in all fields.
• If requested submissions must be made available to Crumble/ Miki before prizes will be awarded.
• Submissions must be either playable online eg. WebGL(Preferred) or Windows / Mac / Linux playable.
• Please be sure to link your Discord Username as that is where i will contact you regarding prizes, entries and anything else relevant to the jam!
• Fake submissions to increase submission count will be removed and scolded.

Now I don't like to make these jams about the prizes as i think you are a winner just for getting involved and making something.

However sometimes we need that little extra push, This jam has been long overdue so prizes are a bit higher.

This is the minimum prizes, They may increase if we receive donations!

• 1st – Gift Card (Steam / Amazon / Etc) (Valued up to $150 AUD) + Special Role
• 2nd – Gift Card (Steam / Amazon / Etc) (Valued up to $100 AUD) + Special Role!
• 3rd – Gift Card (Steam / Amazon / Etc) (Valued up to $50 AUD) + Special Role!

We will offer up any sort of gift card we're able to buy online and send to you. The only requirement is that we can actually buy it online using paypal and send you a code or similar. Steam is also valid but see below.

Steam has introduced a 3 day waiting period on sending gift cards to friends, So the winners will need to friend me on steam and after 3 days i can send them their prize!

type /gamejam register anywhere in the discord server to register for gamejam notifications. You will receive DMs from the server bot when we send out messages :)

How do i begin?

When the GameJam starts, Feature (The discord server bot) will change his message to let people know the theme, and we will update the details on the Itch page. If you used /gamejam register, you will also get a DM with the theme!

How do I win it?

All submissions will be posted to Itch and open to voting and the top 3 || 4 will be chosen.
