Welcome to GDKO 2022
Game Dev Knock Out is an elimination tournament for game developers of all skillsets. It's played out over 10 rounds with the game developers with the lowest scores being eliminated each round.
How many people can take part?
100. Once 100 people have joined I will un-list the Jam. Be quick... first come, first served. The competition is now open to all, there is no limit to who can join but not everyone will qualify for round 2...
How will I know what to create?
The task for the round will be announced the day the round begins. Right here.
Round 1 Task - Create a playable character with a unique ability.
Round 2 - 24th - 31st Jan 2022
Round 3 - 7th - 14th Feb 2022
Round 4 - 21st - 28th Feb 2022
Round 5 - 7th - 14th Mar 2022
Round 6 - 21st - 31st Mar 2022
Round 7 - 10th - 18th April 2022
Round 8 - 25th - 8th May 2022
Round 9 - 13th - 20th May 2022
Round 10 - 1st - 15th June 2022
Final Judging will take place between 15th - 22nd June with the results video and winner announcement being released on 26th June.
Will I have to make 10 games?
No, that would be too much to ask and GDKO is a competition that challenges all aspects of game creation. You will be required to submit something playable but this could be a working mechanic, a special ability something to do with sound design or a focus on artwork or polish and of course, anything in between. The rounds may ask you to build on something from a previous round or start something new.
Can teams take part?
No teams. This is a game development competition that will focus on a range of game development criteria, competing in a team would give an unfair advantage.
How long will the competition last?
It will run for 10 rounds with round 10 being the final. Each round will last between 1-2 weeks with a community voting period at the end.
If I qualify from a round, how will I join the next one?
I'll open a private game jam on itch.io for every round after round 1 and you'll receive an invite with a link to join.
What if I fail to submit something?
Don't worry, it happens. You'll just be eliminated from the competition.
Can I make a Devlog on my progress?
Of course, in fact I encourage it.
After the competition ends?
After the competition ends, I'll be releasing a YouTube video showcasing all the wonderful projects you guys have made with shout-outs and links back to your channels and feeds.
The Winner of the Competition will receive an exclusive GDKO winners T-Shirt.
