In the pandemic we have discovered new ways to engage in play that traditionally happened in-person around a table. The social aspect of roleplaying games has not been lost, but the physicality of rolling dice and moving miniatures no longer happens for most of us. Still, with virtual tabletops and chat windows it has been possible to emulate traditional play.

However, some games have rules mechanisms that require hands touching objects. For example:

  • Dread, with the tumbling block tower serving to count down to unpredictable catastrophe;
  • Feather Drift, Bone Fall, where character success depends on the player's ability to catch falling bones and a feather;
  • Troika!, with the physical act of blindly pulling tokens from a bag to randomly order the combat cycle.

To a lesser extent:

  • Mausritter or Cairn, with the arrangement of inventory slots.

These games are not easily emulated online.

This jam seeks new games that integrate physical action into the rules - games that we will have to wait to play in person.
