Games Now! Online Jam #9 is all about the importance of forests!

***************************************************************************

Register to the GN Online Jam #9: Games for Forests and the GN! Event Day #3: Games with an Agenda here: https://forms.gle/FyrTSd3fVxi9KzoY9

***************************************************************************

We humans are dependent on the health of our planet and have a significant impact on it. Now and during the upcoming decades, we need to work hard in battling climate change and its impacts,  losses in biodiversity, and deforestation! Our forests play an important role for the well-being and survival of our planet and humans: as a source of food and bio-based materials for people, and as a home for the inhabitants of the forest - both plants and animals. Even in cities, trees along streets and in parks protect us from heat waves as temperatures increase and provide refreshing oases to busy city people. Moreover, forests also act as an important buffer against the climate change as carbon sinks and storage.

What kind of games could bring awareness on the importance of forests for the life on Earth?

We continue our series of online jams with multicultural collaboration with jammers from various countries around the world.  You can join the jammer match-making to meet new people and explore your own creative powers together! The jam will be jointly held in collaboration with the GN! network's universities and schools, including Chungkang College of Cultural Industries – School of Games (South Korea), Södertörn University (Sweden), Ritsumeikan University (Japan), the Professional University of Technology in Tokyo (Japan), University of Vaasa (Finland), Aalto University (Finland), and many more. Check the full list here: https://gamesnow.aalto.fi/schools/

You can join the jam regardless of whether you are enrolled in any game school - the jam is open to anyone and free of charge! We welcome everyone who loves games and is interested in cross-cultural jamming.

The jam will be kicked off on the 6th March 2023 as part of the GN! Event Day program at: https://www.twitch.tv/gamesnowaaltofi. At the kick-off, we will introduce our jam mentors as well as reveal the theme for the jam. Join the full GN! Event Day to learn more.

####### Requirements and Theme ########################

The jammers are asked to enhance awareness of the importance of forests through their games. You can define the ways you bring this agenda to your players: will you use real data on forests as carbon sinks, educate the players through the game mechanics or narrative, reward the players for planting trees, tell stories of local forests and the animals and plants living there, induce empathy by making the players act as trees, or maybe even advertising donations to NGOs for forest conservation?

In addition to this, the jam will have an inspirational theme, which will be revealed at the end of the kick-off event on 6th March 2023. It will remain a secret until then.

All submitted jam games will receive feedback/comments from our jam mentors, and some will also be reviewed thoroughly at the next Games Now! Event Day that is scheduled at April 2023.

이번 Games Now!

今回のGames Now!
