Welcome to Game Qode!

The First Virtual Game-Development Jam in Qatar you're waiting for! Here you can jump in and develop your game or part of it in a limited period (one-week) following the jam theme and rules.  You can participate as a solo developer or with your team (A maximum of 4 members in a team). There will be special prizes for the winners which are sponsored by Qatari local businesses and startups. School students, undergraduate students, and professionals are welcome to participate in GameQode Event, as long as you're living in Qatar.

1- Sensitive subjects in the game are not accepted and will be immediately disqualified.

2- All participants shall be Qatari residents (Living In Qatar) .

3- All games shall be uploaded and submitted to itch.io GameQode jam using the following link: (GameQode Link).

4- Only Windows or Web Games are accepted.

5- All games submitted shall include GDQ Logo (logo will be shared with the participants).

6- All games shall not have any copyrighted materials/assets. You can use freeware, fair use and open source assets instead.

7- Development process should start during the game jam. Old developed games are not accepted.

8- Participators can update and improve the game until the deadline which is:

 <2020-12-29 - 12 AM>.

9- The game shall follow the theme to be qualified for the entry.

10- Judges have the right to exclude any game from the rating, if the submission or the participant does not comply with the rules.

11- The prizes will only be given to the team leader. However the organizers have no responsibility how the leader is sharing the rewards with his teams.

12- Source code is not required to be provided.

Where the location for the GameQode Game Jam ?

GameQode is a Virtual GameDev Jam event, You only need a laptop and internet network to connect to the event and participate.

How many times do the students go online? Each day?

You have a full week, Students and participants have freedom to manage their time during the activity but we strongly advise to take rest and break, We will share some game development tips and advice on how to manage the time and stress effectively for all participants.

Please can you send me more information about what the students actually have to do?

We will email and share the Master Plan List to all participants with all important information and steps to join the GameQode event, We will also have videos to give more help and a discord server for support.

I have already signed up for the competition, however I was wondering how to sign up as a group, since it says I can do that on the website, however I couldn't find any way to do so?

Participants have the freedom to join solo or in a team of four members as maximum, Only the leader will be able to submit the game and will be contacted if he/she wins, Solo Developer or the Team Leader should join the event through itch.io to submit the game.

What is the theme of Game Qode?

We will reveal the theme on 21-December-2020.

Any idea of what the prizes are offered?

Prizes are offered by local businesses to the winners, More information will be shared during the event.

Can I know how our work is going to be judged?

We will share review metrics for the judging team, The participator need to not ignore any elements to increase the chance for winning,

Can I use a game-engine like Unity or GameMaker to build the game ?

Participants have full freedom to choose any game engine or frameworks to develop the game, However we only accept games that run on windows or web browsers!

Do we require to have skills and expertise on game developing ?

Absolutely not, GameQode is open for everyone as long as he/she is living in Qatar.

When the deadline for registration?

Registration will still open even during the event, until the last day, However we strongly suggest to register early to not miss any important notes or tips about GameQode and to join the GDQ Discord for support.

Can i share and post about my game during the event on social media?

Sure!, Also feel free to use #GameQode for marketing your game/wip entry.

I am outside of Qatar, Can I participate GameQode?

We currently accept people living in Qatar or who have been in Qatar before, and have relatives living there too! We don't accept anyone outside Qatar because we only have local sponsors that provide gifts that are valid/can be used in Qatar region only.
