Abridged description:

  • Every day one feature must be implemented.
  • Every day your new feature should be catalogued. This can be publicly on social media like Twitter or privately such as in a personal journal. If you're sharing progress on social media, use the hashtag #GameDevember in your posts.
  • Projects don't have to be solo - you can work with a group if you want to take turns working each day or generally split up the work.
  • Sundays and December 1st are for planning and reflection. Features aren't required, but you should still catalogue your plan for the week and how you feel about the last week.
  • Write a 1-2 sentence description of your project idea on December 1st AKA your high-concept or elevator pitch.
  • The 1st-15th are for implementing features and mechanics; projects should be feature complete on the 15th. That means all mechanics and systems are implemented, but might be buggy.
  • The 16th-24rd are for finalizing content; projects should be content complete on the 24rd. That means all art, audio, and levels should be in, if not polished.
  • The last week should be used for polish. That means adding any last minute fixed and tweaks should be thrown on now. Avoid making large changed or adding more content if you can.
  • Projects are shared on January 1st. I'd recommend writing a post-mortem today, too, describing what went well, what didn't, and what you learned over the month.
