Game Jam Los Baños 2024 is a fast-paced, collaborative event where individuals or teams come together to create a functional, cohesive, and engaging video game within a limited timeframe.
The game development period will span 48 hours, from 10:00 PM on May 18 to 10:00 PM on May 19. During this time, teams will be encouraged to provide regular progress updates through Discord meetings, ensuring transparency and accountability throughout the development process.
The core of Game Jam Los Baños 2024 lies within the 48-hour game development period, taking place on the 4th and 5th days of the event. During this time, participants will work asynchronously to create a video game adhering to specific criteria.
- A theme, unveiled at the commencement of the Game Jam, shall serve as the foundation for all game concepts. Teams are expected to creatively interpret and integrate this theme into their game's narrative, mechanics, and aesthetics.
- In addition to the theme, a unique challenge will be presented at the start of the Game Jam. Teams must demonstrate their ability to implement this challenge within their game design, showcasing their problem-solving skills and adaptability.
- While the use of freely available online assets is permitted, the creation of original assets is strongly encouraged. This includes, but is not limited to, artwork, music, sound effects, and character models.
- Teams are required to maintain documentation within the game development process. This documentation may include design documents, concept art, code repositories, and any other materials that showcase the team's progress and creative journey; it can even be as simple as pictures of the team members during their development sessions. Additionally, progress reports are mandatory, with teams expected to update event organizers on their progress, challenges faced, and milestones achieved by 8 PM on both days. These updates will be conducted through a Discord meeting, with all team members required to attend. Finally, teams must submit a comprehensive final progress report, including a PDF detailing each member's roles and contributions to the project. A template for this document can be provided.
