Side Quest: Use UModeler X

"Stuck learning Blender, Max, and Photoshop? Jumpstart your game development smoother and faster with UModeler X in Unity!"

Submitters can win a better prize by making their game using UModeler X. To qualify, most of your art assets must be made with UModeler XSubmitters must provide a public GitHub repository containing the project so that the UModeler team can ensure everyone followed the rules.  We won't mind minor usage of other 3D assets from the Unity Asset Store or other websites, but the majority should be created through our sponsor's platform. If you either do not submit a GitHub repository with your project or most of your assets are not made with UModeler X, you will be competing for the Non-UModeler prize instead.

TL;DR: You can choose to utilize our sponsor's tool to compete for a bigger prize pool or choose to submit a game without any limitation (besides the theme) for a smaller prize pool.

You can add UModeler X Basic into your Unity project through the Unity Asset Store here: https://assetstore.unity.com/packages/tools/modeling/umodeler-x-basic-254983

Rules and FAQ

  1. What is the team capacity and where can I find team members?
    1. We allow teams of up to 4. We have a discord server where you can talk with lots of people!
  2. Does this jam allow 18+ content?
    1. No. We will disqualify inappropriate games, NSFW/NSFL, or offensive content.
  3. What is and isn't allowed in terms of game development limitations, excluding the theme?
    1. You are free to use any game engine as well as any assets, free or paid.
    2. AI generated content is allowed, though personalized work is probably a lot better.
    3. You may reuse code, art, sound, and other assets that you may have used in previous projects; however, you ARE NOT allowed to submit your existing games. We don't want full, pre-built games.
    4. Adding to the above, you may not submit your game to other jams for the duration of our competition, which lasts to the end of public voting. If we find that your game has been submitted to another jam anytime before we announce winners, your game will be disqualified without exception. You may submit your game jam game to other jams and do whatever you like after ours is officially over.
    5. Game must be built for either WebGL or Windows for judges to play.
    6. You can only submit one game.
  4. I just missed the deadline! Can I still submit my hard work?
    1. We are offering a half-day grace period after submissions. You must DM Century178 on Discord up to 12 hours after the jam ends to request a special link that will allow you to submit your game late. When you DM, please send the URL of the itch page containing your game. Any links sent after 12 pm MST the following day will be ignored. As long as you send your part in the 12 hours, don't worry about missing the deadline. Why 12 hours? Because we think this is a reasonable time for you to fix the bugs you may have but not enough time to add full blown new features into your game.
  5. I found a bug in my game before the end of submissions, can I make an update?
    1. Yes, we allow new files to be uploaded until submissions close. However, once the rating period begins, you cannot add anything.
  6. I have other questions that are not answered here!
    1. Look at the other sections that we have below, which may contain answers to your questions.
    2. Join our discord server and ask us!

Prizes

There are two winners: the winner that used UModeler X and the winner that did not.

The UModeler Winner gets $50 (split between team members)

The Non-UModeler Winner gets $25 (split between team members).

Disclaimer: The advertised prize pool value refers to the total cash prize we are investing in the jam. It may or may not be fully attainable by a singular individual depending on team size and the number of winners we have.

Payment

Each team will have a "team captain" that will submit the game on the behalf of the team and will receive the cash prize from FIA. The team captain will be responsible for distributing the cash to their entire team however they want to. Asset vouchers will however be distributed to each member privately. After winning, the team captain must provide FIA with contact information for the rest of the teammates.

We prefer using Paypal. That is our primary option. For international developers, we will prefer using Xoom because it is very simple to send money to any country without the receiver needing to create an account. If there are issues with these platforms for your country or situation, we can talk about it; we WILL get you the money you deserve no matter what.

Disclaimer: The cash awarded to the winning team may be deducted to pay for international transaction fees. FIA is not required to use extra funds to account for international fees. We will contact immediately after announcing the winners. If you do not answer the contact you provided us in the form when you submit your game for one week, you will forfeit your prize.

Judgement

To clarify once again, the public voting period will not determine the winner of the jam as that will be determined by the judges, but it will engage our community. Participants are encouraged to rate each other's games and give constructive feedback.

The games will be judged by Century178 and possibly FutureInspireGames. Judging will occur a day or two before the public voting period ends, and the results will be released when the public voting period ends. Along with the categories below, we will also look at which game has the most potential to be expanded upon and become successful. The categories (each scored on a scale of 0 to 10) are:

  • Theme - How creatively does the game apply the jam's theme? How much does the theme impact the game?
  • Gameplay - How fun and unique is the game to play? Is the gameplay bug free?
  • Presentation - How appealing are the visuals and music/sounds? (Volume applies too, don't make it too loud or quiet!)

Your entry's score will NOT be publicly revealed by FIA. However, you may ask Century178 on Discord what score you got, along with his reasoning for the score. He won't be rude, but he will be honest and objective. This review will be given in a DM.
