I listened to Season 1 of Play to Find Out and Skyrealms of Jorune stole my heart.

I'll probably never play this beautiful, gigantic, unwieldy beast of a game. You probably won't either. Quinns, Rob, and Emily have bravely made the ultimate sacrifice, so that we don't have to.

But must Jorune live only as a memory of a podcast? No! There is another way. Once, in the times of myth and legend, faced with the bulk of Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay, a true hero did battle with the uncountable pages and cut them down to a vicious pair of one-sheet mini zines. I am of course speaking of SLEDGEHAMMER by Gayhalforc.

Let us be inspired by Gayhalforc's mighty deeds, and by Quinns, Rob and Emily's brave sacrifice!

LET'S SLEDGEHAMMER JORUNE!

Here's the JAM:

  • Write a game or adventure module inspired by Skyrealms of Jorune and/or Play to Find Out Season 1
  • The maximum size of your submission is a 2 single-sided (or 1 double-sided) 8.5x11 or A4 sheets. This can be a pair of single-sheet 8-fold minizines like Sledgehammer, a tri-fold brochure, a 4-page 5.5x8.5 sized zine, or anything else using that much paper!
  • No generative AI content

Tips

  • Try taking a particular slice of Jorune that inspired you and make a game out of just that part.
  • Try writing your game in one sitting in pen. Seriously. It's kind of magic.
  • Have fun!

Formatting tips for the size requirements

Download templates for 1-sheet zines here!

  • A pair of 1-sheet mini-zines, just like Sledgehammer. Each zine has 8 pages that are 2 3/4" x 4 1/4" and can be folded out of a single sheet.
  • A tri-fold brochure, folded from a single 8.5x11 sheet (double sided).
  • A 4 page digest-sized (5.5" x 8.5") zine, folded from a single 8.5x11 sheet (double sided).
  • A simple 8.5x11 piece of paper, double-sided if you like, no fancy folding at all!

Copyright cautions

Using the lovely wonderful beautiful copyrighted words from the Jorune glossary might or might not be copyright infringement, depending on if you think your work is "fair use" such as parody, maybe fan fiction (depending on whether or not that is fair use), etc. I am not a lawyer and don't know the answers to any of the questions!

If this makes you nervous, you might consider some combination of making your submission free and using generic words instead of the cool Jorune words. Like calling a game "rules-light, grim-dark fantasy" instead of calling it "rules-light, warhammer fantasy". Rules mechanics can't be copyrighted (still not a lawyer, yada yada) so party on with those!

Attributions

This jam is independently organized and is not affiliated Quinn's Quest / Play to Find Out or with Gayhalforc / Sledgehammer. Special thanks to the RTFM podcast where I learned about Sledgehammer and also about using it as a verb!
