Welcome to the fourth edition of the Flame Game Jam! πŸ”₯

Sponsors

Flutter & Friends, a friendly Flutter conference in Stockholm (where the full Flame team will attend)!

Danger World is a new game coming later this year to mobile and desktop. Built with Flame, Spine, and Jenny, it's a real example of how far you can push the Flame engine.

Need a little motivation for your own project? Check it out.

Do you, or your company want to sponsor this jam? Reach out to use over at contact@blue-fire.xyz

Intro

Opening stream:

The game jam will focus on the Flame game engine, which is built on top of Flutter, a cross-platform framework that allows developers to create applications for multiple platforms like Android, iOS, Web, and Desktop.

This game jam will allow us to gather feedback from our community while also giving something back in the form of prizes.  The game jam will have a theme that will constrain the teams in how they can create their game. We will announce the theme at the start of the game jam period in a live stream on our YouTube Channel.

Join our Discord server: https://discord.gg/pxrBmy4 If you are looking for a team, fill this in: https://forms.gle/Ws4gfzB9RdMw7Qge8

You can also see others who have already filled it in here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1nBgKqQ6WV1L8RAJogG6B7TbpHdtqv7kGheRpPTP5...

Main theme (everyone has this): The Space Race

Diversifiers (choose one):

  • Shaders
  • Immersive Sounds
  • Branching Storyline

Rules

  1. Teams: You can join in as a team, but you can only join a single team.
  2. Game submission: The game must be submitted on the Jam's Itch.io page. The entry must include a Web Build embedded on Itch.io (Preferable) or an Android build (APK). The submission page must also include instructions on how to play the game and preferably some screenshots of the game. Instructions for how to build for itch and GitHub pages can be found here.
  3. Jam dynamics: All the work on the game’s development must be done within the given Jam period and only by members of the team; any work done outside that period will result in disqualification.
  4. Assets: You can use assets not made by you or your team as long as those assets are free or were legally purchased and their licenses allow their use in open source projects, and are credited in-game. It is also allowed to use AI generated assets as long as the model only has been trained on free/open assets.
  5. Packages: The game must be made in Flutter with the latest Flame version, any other packages/libraries are also allowed to be used as long as they have an open source license.
  6. Code access: All entries must be open source and the submission must include a link to the game source code.
  7. Friendly content: None of the following content is allowed in the games:
    1. Extreme NSFW, sexual content, or excessive and extreme use of gore/violence.
    2. Hateful content, including violence, threats, and discrimination against other people (For example discrimination based on ethnicity, nation, caste, sexual orientation, gender, gender identity, religion, age, disability, or diseases).
    3. Flame's code of conduct can't be breached.

Rating

Judging of the entries will be done by the core Flame team. Below, you can find the criteria and how they will be judged. Each criterion will receive a rating from 0 to 5 and the final score of the entry will be an arithmetic average of all the criteria.

  • Graphics: How good the game looks visually. It doesn't matter which art style is chosen, as long as it's appealing and consistent across the game. If the team hasn't made the art from scratch during the Jam, this criterion has a top score of 3. It is also allowed to use AI generated assets as long as the model only has been trained on free/open assets, and the top score for this category then also has a max of 3.
  • Audio: How good the game sounds, both in sound effects and music. If the team hasn't composed the audio themselves from scratch during the Jam, this criterion has a top score of 3.
  • Game Design: How well the game mechanics work and how good the gameplay is. For example: Are the controls good and easy to understand? Are the rules of the game clear? And most importantly, is the game fun?
  • Theme: How well the theme and the limitations were used in the game. For example: can the theme be identified? Was it used in a clever way? It is important to mention that the theme doesn't need to be interpreted literally; a creative interpretation may grant a good score on this criterion.

Prizes

We are offering two tickets to the Flutter & Friends conference and cash prizes for the top winners, i.e., for the teams with the highest ratings. There will also be 30 Flutter Store Codes up for grabs (hopefully there will be enough Dash in the store, otherwise they have other nice items)! πŸ˜

If a tie happens, the untying criteria will be the date and time of the entry submission; the entry that was submitted first will be chosen as the winner. The prize will be transferred to one of the members of the team (chosen by the team) and the team will be responsible for the division of the prize among its members.

1st place:
* Two Flutter & Friends tickets (if solo team, one ticket goes to 2nd place)
* 400€ in Visa/MasterCard prepaid gift card
* Flame Care Package
* Flutter store code (choice of t-shirt or Dash (if they are in stock))

2nd place:
* 200€ in Visa/MasterCard prepaid gift card
* Flutter store code (choice of t-shirt or Dash (if they are in stock))

3rd place:
* 100€ in Visa/MasterCard prepaid gift card
* Flutter store code (choice of t-shirt or Dash (if they are in stock))

The prize values are what we send to the winners, the received monetary value may not be the full prize due to fees from the service used.

The judges are of course not eligible to participate in the ranking or receive prizes.
