This jam is now over. It ran from 2024-07-19 07:00:00 to 2024-07-27 07:00:00. View 2 entries

Unfortunately, all entries either submitted after the initial deadline or broke one of our rules. As a result, none of the entries qualified for first place. We will do everything we can to make sure this does not happen again.

Theme: The Most Terrifying Childhood Experience

Background

Welcome to our latest game jam, where we invite you to revisit the most terrifying experiences from your childhood. Whether it was the monster under the bed, the creepy neighbor down the street, or the unsettling darkness of your own imagination, we want you to channel those primal fears into a captivating interactive experience.

The goal of this game jam is to create a game that captures the essence of childhood terror - the sense of vulnerability, the overwhelming dread, and the desperate need to escape. Explore the psychological and emotional depths of fear, and challenge players to confront their own darkest memories.

Key Elements to Include

Use YAHAHA Horror Game Kit to create your game

Hints

  1. Consider the various ways in which you can evoke a sense of unease and discomfort
  2. Utilize atmospheric sound design, eerie visuals, and unsettling narratives to unsettle your players
  3. Experiment with gameplay mechanics that heighten the tension and leave the player feeling powerless, much like a child faced with the unknown

Exclusive Details

For this specific game jam, you are required to use the Yahaha game engine to create your game. If you fulfill our sponsor's requirements, you will automatically earn $30 (first place can win $40). Yes, we are serious; everyone can win money just by learning to use Yahaha for a day and compete in our short competition. Why and how are we doing this?

We agreed with Yahaha that if we bring in 10 or more qualified submissions, they will sponsor us proportional to the number of submissions. That is how much they are willing to invest to promote their relatively new game engine. But like I said, this only happens if we hit 10 OR MORE. So invite your friends!

Submission Requirements

  1. One YAHAHA Horror Game (though we are allowing multiple submissions)
  2. Record the most exciting part of your game (less than one minute) or capture some exciting moments during your development process and upload it to YouTube as a short video. Make sure to mention us by @yahahastudios to submit the video, and use the hashtags #childhood and #horrorgaming.  (Please make it public, or we cannot receive your video)

Submission Rules

To be a valid submission, please follow these requirements:

1. Create and publish an original project. (AI tools, including the YAHAHA AI scene generator and 3D model generation, are allowed and not prohibited at any stage of the creation process.)

2.  Your submitted games should be made with the Horror Game Kit within YAHAHA Studio.

3. Get a score over 60 and submit all the required materials (project + video) to qualify for the participation prize.

4. Put #Yahaha in your game's page.

5. Provide https://horror-hatch.itch.io/  with a co-author link for your game.

Rules & FAQs

  1. What is the team capacity and where can I find team members?
    1. We allow teams of up to 4. We have a discord server where you can talk with lots of people!
  2. Does this jam allow 18+ content?
    1. No. We will disqualify inappropriate games, NSFW/L or offensive content.
  3. What is and isn't allowed in terms of game development limitations, excluding the theme and exclusive rules?
    1. For this game jam specifically, you must use the Yahaha game engine to make your game. You may use free or paid assets for art, music, or anything else though.
    2. AI generated content is allowed, though personalized work is probably a lot better.
    3. You may reuse code, art, sound, and other assets that you may have used in previous projects; however, you ARE NOT allowed to submit your existing games. We don't want full, pre-built games.
    4. Adding to the above, you may not submit your game to other jams for the duration of our competition, which lasts to the end of public voting. If we find that your game has been submitted to another jam anytime before we announce winners, your game will be disqualified without exception. You may submit your game jam game to other jams and do whatever you like after ours is officially over.
    5. Game must be built for either WebGL or Windows for judges to play.
    6. For this jam, WE ALLOW MULTIPLE SUBMISSIONS
  4. I just missed the deadline! Can I still submit my hard work?
    1. We are offering a half-day grace period after submissions. You must contact Century up to 12 hours after the jam ends to request a special link that will allow you to submit your game late. When you DM, please send the URL of the itch page containing your game. Any links sent after 12 pm PST the following day will be ignored. As long as you send your part in the 12 hours, don't worry about missing the deadline.
  5. I found a bug in my game before the end of submissions, can I make an update?
    1. Yes, we allow new files to be uploaded until submissions close.
  6. I have other questions that are not answered here!
    1. Look at the other sections that we have below, which may contain answers to your questions.
    2. Join our discord server and ask us!

Prizes

The following will only happen if we receive ten or more qualified Yahaha submissions. If not, we will have one winner that will receive $25 (split among team).

First place gets:

- $40 (split among team)

Every other qualified game gets:

- $30 (split among team)

Payment

Each team will have a "team captain" that will submit the game on the behalf of the team and will receive the cash prize from FIA. The team captain will be responsible for distributing the cash to their entire team however they want to. Asset vouchers will however be distributed to each member privately. After winning, the team captain must provide me with contact information for the rest of the teammates.

We prefer using Paypal. That is our primary option. For international developers, we will prefer using Xoom because it is very simple to send money to any country without the receiver needing to create an account. If there are issues with these platforms for your country or situation, we can talk about it; we WILL get you the money you deserve no matter what.

Disclaimer: The cash awarded to the winning team may be deducted to pay for international transaction fees. FIA is not required to use extra funds to account for international fees. We will contact immediately after announcing the winners. If you do not answer the contact you provided us in the form when you submit your game for one week, you will forfeit your prize.

Judgement

The games will be judged by our sponsor over at Yahaha. Judging will commence after the end of the grace period, and the results will be released when the public voting period ends.

Sponsors

Thank you to all of our partners who help fund our game jams for the community! While we will hear a word from sponsors that are directly contributing to this jam, we want to let everyone know that, more often than not, our cash prize is possible from extra investments that past sponsors donate.

Yahaha is a user-friendly game engine designed for creators of all skill levels to develop immersive 3D experiences and games. It offers a wide range of tools and assets, enabling seamless and efficient game development without requiring extensive coding knowledge. With its robust community support and resources, Yahaha empowers creators to bring their visions to life and share them with a global audience.

Terms and Policies

Future Inspire Academy claims no rights or ownership to submitted games, but, by submitting a game to our competition, you give permission for your game to appear on videos or other promotional materials that we may create in the future.

Sponsor Disclaimers

  1. When the number of qualified submissions for the FIA Gamejam reaches or exceeds ten, Yahaha will sponsor each submission with $40, making the total sponsorship amount equal to the number of qualified YAHAHA games * 40 USD. If the number of qualified submissions is less than ten, no sponsorship will be provided. (Note the reason why not everyone will receive $40 when Yahaha will sponsor $40 per is because FIA is taking a cut to reinvest into our organization to pay for subscription plans and more jams).
  2. Upon meeting the sponsorship criteria, Yahaha will arrange payment within 30 business days.
  3. Yahaha has the authority to review and approve the submitted works.
  4. YAHAHA does not claim ownership of Entries, however, except where prohibited, by participating in the campaign, entrant grants Yahaha and its agents an irrevocable right and license in perpetuity to publish, use, edit, adapt, and/or modify any or all of the content in an Entry that was created or contributed to by Entrant without the need for further approval, in whole or in part, in any way, in any and all media throughout the world, and to associate the Entry with Entrant's name, likeness, and biographical information, without limitation and without compensation for the purposes of announcing winners, showcase and marketing promotion associated to the campaign. Entrant agrees that Released Parties are not responsible for any unauthorized use of Entries by third parties.
