Welcome to the first official Fantastic Game Dev Community Game Jam!

Community Discord:  https://discord.gg/hRQCgpEb4Q

Host Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/pitiitnet

Fantastic Game Dev Community is a small yet friendly and non-toxic game dev community.

We do our best to create a friendlynon-toxic environment where you can learn, share and just be whoever you are - the way you are.

Because YOU ARE PERFECT!

Creating games is fun but can be hard and frustrating, so we are here to help you:

If you have questions, want to chat to nice people or just find a place where you can hang around, feel free to join our discord.

To be announced.

  1. This jam is over one week long, not because we want you to work the whole week but because we want to give you enough time to sleep, have fun, meet with friends and family and most importantly take care of your health. Do not neglect yourself!
  2. Your game has to fit given theme (of course you can get creative :))
  3. You can create the game alone or in a team.
  4. External assets are completely ok to use - including sound, music, graphics, code as long as you have the license to use them.
  5. The game does not have to be finished. As long as you have something playable that is great!
  6. Try to be an active part of the community, share your progress, help others. We are all about making our game journeys a pleasant experience.
  7. Use of any AI tools is allowed. We believe this is the direction industry is heading and we should support each other in learning how to use AI tools ethically, to do good. There will always be those that misuse AI or do harm with it, however we want to make sure that for each of those people, there are 100 of those that use AI for the good of society.
  8. NSFW games are not allowed.

And here's a full of additional special rules. Feel free to follow as many as possible or none at all! Also feel free to suggest new ones on our discord server :).

They are meant to make the Jam a little bit more fun and challenging but are not required.

Animal Lover - Only animal characters

Me no read, no write - Don't use any words to communicate anything (text allowed only in menu, not even in tutorial)

Minimalistic - All game in one scene

Shader Expert - Use at least 5 shaders created using Shader Graph

Double Meaning - The game has to have a second, hidden meaning suggested by art/events/indirect lore

This should not work - Combine two game genres that seem impossible to combine

Infinite possibilities - add some type of randomization or procedural generation that makes each playthrough unique

Be proud of your roots - add something that makes reference to your culture (can be a setting, creature, plot idea, etc.)

Keep it short keep it clean - less than 100 lines of code per class

Haiku - your game shouldn't have more than 100 lines of code in total

We can make a change - Add some type of mechanic where change can be achieved by the participation of many (i.e. recycling for climate change, kindness for a better society, etc.)

Everyone can play - Add a decent amount of accessibility options to your game

Thats my voice line - Make every sound effect using your voice

Work-life balance - Don't work on the game for longer than 1h a day

Like exam study - Treat the jam as regular 48h jam. Just sit, create your game in a day/two and have the rest of the month for you!

Keen to learn - Use a game engine/framework you have never used before

Real Programmer - Create a game without using any game engine or framework designed to create games.

Suicide Mission - Assemble team of people and each of you has to be responsible for a part of the game that you know the least about (e.g., if you never created music before, you will create music, if somebody never coded, they will code).

Dedicated to the community - Include community members as game characters (ask them first if they don't mind)

One-hand friendly - Design your game to make it playable with only one hand

ASCII Warrior - Phi! Who needs graphics? Your game will consist only of ASCII characters.

Halloween - Make sure your game contains spooky elements

Teacher - Turn your project into a learning resource - make it publicly available, include helpful comments, extra resources and so on

What is code? - Use visual scripting

I am machine - Create as much as possible using AI tools. Avoid any manual work.

AI Explorer - Try some AI Tools you never used or you always wanted to explore.

Purist - Who needs AI? You created your game not using even one AI tool.

When submitting your entry, you will be asked to provide the list of special rules that you went with! :)

  • The voting period will last 3 days from the day the jam ends.
  • The games can be rated by submitters and contributors.
  • The criteria will be:
    • Theme - how much the game fits the jam's theme.
    • Art & Music - does the game feel coherent? Do you like how it looks and sounds? Is the art style unique?
    • Fun - did you enjoy playing the game? Will you want to play it again? Does the idea have the potential to be turned into 'full' production?
    • Special Rules - you can select extra constraints from a list of special rules. You can use one or all of them. It is up to you!
    • Overall - the "total" score. How do you feel about the game taking into consideration all of its aspects?
