👋 Welcome!

Imagine - you and your friends are out on a scuba expedition in an area far off from civilization.  While snapping photos of coral and newly discovered species of fish, one of you discovers signs of a ruin.  It's none other than the lost city of Atlantis itself!  However, you have no service with which to upload photos of your discovery to Instagram, and you apparently forgot to put fuel in the boat for your return trip to the dock.


How do you occupy yourself while you wait for a passing ship to help you?



📱 The Jam

Create a new game that only uses the apps that came pre-installed on your phone. Smartphones have access to an ever deepening well of games and apps, but we're taking a step back to strip these miraculous little devices back down to their bare necessities.  Think of these like folk games, for our smart phones!  The goal is to create a small zine of these games with which to share with others, should you find yourself in a situation like the one above or just want to have a different kind of fun with your smartphone.


📜 Rules

  • Your game must only use the apps that came pre-installed on your phone!  If you download a lot of apps and are unsure which ones were default, you can try using the Challenge App list below, or do a little digging on your phone model.
  • If your game requires an additional set of files (pictures, sounds, text documents, etc.) for the game to be played, you may include those as well in your submission, as long as they are still being used within pre-installed apps.  However, you will need to find a way to link to them in your zine page.

  • Make a multiplayer game.
  • Create your game using only smartphone apps from this list:

    • Settings
    • Voice Memos/Recordings
  • Remember, if you want others to be able to play your game, the more commonplace the app the better!

Click the link below to add your game instructions to the zine!  Feel free to style your page however you like.  It can be as simple as a set of text instructions or elaborate with pictures and diagrams. 

Please be cool, don't mess with other peoples submissions!
