What if you stole someone's idea?

Would your game be the same as the many other games who shamelessly copied the original?

Or would all the clones be different enough to be considered legitimate games?

This jam seeks to answer all of these questions.

The twist

This jam does not have a theme. At least, not a traditional one.

When the jam starts, you will not be given a few vague words that will dictate your design process; instead, you will be given an entire 12-page Game Design Document (GDD) describing the game you must make.

Why? It's all because this is an experiment. I want to simulate a situation where all participants are trying to plagiarize a game that is still in development. There will be very few game design work to do, but do not think this will be easy...

Also, this jam is not ranked. We're all working together toward the same goal: getting results for the experiment!

Theme

As said earlier, the theme is a 12-page game design document.

Rules

  1. Your game must follow the theme. If you clearly didn't try to follow the theme and you're exploiting this jam for free advertising, your submission will get removed and reported.

  2. Your game must have a web build (so that it can run directly on itch.io without having to download anything - external websites like gd.games aren't allowed).
    1. If that's not possible using your engine/language, you must have a Windows AND a Linux build.
    2. Again, I'll understand if you can't export for a specific platform, but I'd appreciate a Linux build!!! Thanks :D

  3. Any engine/language allowed

  4. Teams are allowed! Yay! Bring your friends into the jam for extra fun :D

  5. All assets must be made during the jam's time frame.

  6. Using AI to generate assets is prohibited. If you can't make good art or music, either find someone who can or try anyway. I can't draw for the life of me, so I decided to use 8x8 pixel art so I don't have to be good at art lol (...if I was an actual pixel artist it could have been much better though)

  7. Be respectful

  8. No NSFW (I have no idea how you would even make the game NSFW... if you knew what the theme is you'd understand what I mean)

When in doubt, contact me! You can do that on Discord or through this jam's "Community" tab.

Fun fact: this jam page was made without custom CSS! I only modified each HTML element's "style" attribute to make things look pretty :D

Please, itch.io devs, add more jam page customization features... I can't even change the font 😭
