This jam is now over. It ran from 2017-02-03 00:00:00 to 2017-02-12 00:00:00.

Welcome to the effects jam! Do not be scared if you are not much of an artist or just started. You will not be the only one and you will learn a lot through trial and error.

Goal

The goal of this jam is to create one or more effects usable in a video game. This can be a cool shader, a nice-looking particle system, an awesome lightning system or an amazing animation. You do not have to include the effect in an actual game, just make sure you submit something where you showcase the effect.

Rules

  • You can start early because the point of the jam is to learn and it is not a contest. However, the most activity will be during the actual jam.

  • You are allowed work together, just make sure to attribute everyone you worked with.
  • If you submit a game you made earlier with an update for this jam, please tell us what you updated in the description.

Discord

Discord is a instant-messaging app made for games. It is also a very helpful app for jams because you can easily communicate with your fellow jammers. I have set up a server for the jam, which you can join by clicking this link: https://discord.gg/72PBQjZ, and I want to encourage you to do so.

Advice

  • Deadlines are pretty hard, but do not rush to finish your project. When you miss the deadline, instead of worrying, just message me and we will figure something out.
  • Share your progress! It's really fun and the feedback will help you. You can share your project with your fellow jammers on Discord or on Twitter using the hashtag #effectsjam
  • If you have no idea where to start, check if you can improve a game you made earlier by adding effects.
  • Once you have a prototype working, upload and submit it early! You can still update it and people will be able to give you feedback this way.

Tutorials

Tutorials are always helpful, whether you are a beginner or not. I have already found one tutorial, but if you know more, do not hestitate to tell me about them.
