Welcome to the DOMEjam!

What?

This is your opportunity to build games with DOME, the comfortable framework for making games.  It allows you to make cross-platform 2D games (for Windows, Mac and Linux) with ease.

It's time to learn the Wren programming language, leave the nest and make cute, cosy and cool games!

Rules

You have about 10 days to make your game so that you have time to learn Wren and the DOME APIs.

  1. Your entry must use DOME.
  2. The entry must be considered "safe-for-work".
  3. Assets (images, music, text, code) must be your own, or open-licensed.
  4. Your final game must be open-sourced. (See why in the FAQ)
  5. Have fun!

An optional theme will be announced at the start of the jam!

The optional theme is: ~FLOW~

FAQ

How do I get started?

It's easy:

  1. Download the correct version of DOME  for your platform: Windows (32-bit or 64-bit), Mac OS X or Linux (64-bit)
  2. Unzip it.
  3. You're good to go! Your game starts in the `main.wren` file.

If you're particularly savvy, you can even build DOME from source!

What is DOME?

DOME is an open-source game development framework designed and maintained by Aviv (@avivbeeri), to provide a comfortable and portable toolkit for making small and medium-sized games in Wren. You can read more about it here.

What is Wren?

Wren is a scripting language designed to be fast and expressive, with classes baked in. It's fantastic for making games. You can even embed the Wren interpreter in your own applications. Check out the documentation, it'll help you get started.

Can I use a game I made for another jam?

Of course, so long as it was made with DOME!

Why do entries need to be open-sourced?

DOME is a brand new framework, which means there's not many examples of games made with it. By making your games open source, others can learn from your efforts, and the world can be filled with more games.

I have more questions, where can I get help?

If you run into problems, you can come to the DOME discord server or post in the jam community and ask for help.

Best of luck! We can't wait to see what you make!
