what's the brief?

Create any kind of game using graphics with dithering effects - monochrome or color is welcomed. The only restriction is that game must be created around the time of the jam. There are no themes or content limitations, and interactive fiction using dithered visual assets is welcomed. Light host judging for the best game(s) will occur if the jam gets enough entrants. 

what is dithering? 

Dithering is a technique mostly used in earlier computer graphics in the 80s to web design in the early 2000s. It reduces the number of colors in an image and adds noise. This technique was helpful when converting high quality images to a smaller resolution or a more limited color palette, so the image still appeared to have detail and blended the limited colors together.

what is ditherpunk?

Ditherpunk refers to an emerging stylistic trend in recent indie games that uses dithering to create a nostalgic, grainy aesthetic. Games like Return of the Obra Dinn and Who's Lila? have received praise for their distinctive visual style. I used a similar approach when creating my own game, Shellie's Secret.

how can i create dithered graphics? 

It's very easy to dither 2D images or 3D textures. There's plenty of tutorials online for how to dither color images or create a monochrome ditherpunk effect. For instance, GIMP has a Dither tool under the Color tab, making it easy to create a dithered style.
