Round 1 Theme

You'll need to register before you can join the league.

What is Dev League?

Dev League is league based competition played out over the course of 10 rounds. Every 2 weeks you'll have a 24 hour window to create and submit a game based on a theme. You'll receive points based on your ranking in the Jam and those points will be tallied up over the course of the season.

Do I have to participate in all the rounds?

No, it's really up to you. Each round gives you the opportunity to earn points, if you decide not to participate you'll just earn 0 points for that round. 

How is the competition scored?

After the submission window there will be a 1 week voting period which is open to everyone, not just contributors, anyone with an itch.io account will be able to vote on your game. Once the voting ends you'll receive points based on where you rank.

Your points will reflect your position in the league. After all rounds have been played the winner of division 1 will be crowned the champion of Dev Leagues. Promotion and relegation will take place in the lower leagues. 

Division Rankings

The Rat Race

If you're in the Rat Race you'll need to place top 3 in a much larger division to earn a spot in Dev League the following season. There is no limit to how big the Rat Race can be... Good Luck! The Rat Race division will not feature in any Dev League related YouTube content or social media. You'll have to earn your place to be seen. 

How do I join Dev Leagues?

You'll need to register before you can join the league. There are 6 Divisions, once registered you'll be added to the next available place in the division. If all divisions are full you'll join a queue to replace those who are relegated from the lowest division in the next season. 

You'll retain your league position each year after you've joined but if you failed to participate you'll naturally fall down the rankings until you are relegated from the lowest division.

What if I get relegated?

If you are in division 1 through 5 you'll simply move to the lower division next season. If you are relegated from division 6 you'll join the Rat Race and have to win your place back in Dev League in the next season.

What if there is a tie for a promotional place?

If 2 or more devs are tied for the last promotional or relegation place the winners and losers will be decided on which dev ranked highest overall in the previous rounds. 

How often does Dev League run?

Dev League will run from July until November each year with a game jam taking place every 2 weeks where you'll be able to earn points.

Can I join as part of a team?

Yes, teams are welcome to participate. 

Where can I view my league position?

After round 1 the league positions will posted in every jam page. I'll also be publishing them on Discord (Link at the bottom) and Twitter (link at the bottom) and making regular youtube videos showcasing the entries and league standings.

What are the voting categories?

One simple category. Overall, how good was the game?

Is there a prize for winning Dev League?

If you finish in the top 3 in divisions 2-6 or the Rat Race you'll be promoted to the division above for the next season. If you win division 1 you'll win an official Dev League Winners Hoodie.
